POSITION SUMMARY The Learning and Development Manager at Oportun will play a key role in fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth, specifically within the Operations and Collections teams. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing effective learning programs that align with Oportun's strategic goals and support employee development across these critical functions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in creating tailored learning solutions, identifying specific training needs within Operations and Collections, and driving engagement through impactful programs. As a Learning and Development Manager, you will collaborate closely with business leaders, utilizing data, scorecards and your expertise to enhance skills, continuously improve business performance, and promote career growth within these teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES Develops and implements learning and development strategies and solutions that support business needs, create organizational capability and drive individual, team and career growth across the company that optimizes organizational capability to achieve strategic business and operational objectives.Ensures learning & development strategies and solutions continuously improve business performance through business scorecards and are aligned with all relevant HR and other functional strategies, practices, and objectives.Utilizing various technology, methodologies, tools and systems, provides critical development and deployment support and services to the learning and development needs of the company, ensuring alignment to our strategic goals and objectives.Serves as the content and technical expert regarding learning and development for the team in Mexico.Coordinates and supports the Learning and Development Mexico team, building appropriate course materials to support courses and specific learning objectives.Conducts needs assessment with business/division/functional human resources leadership to identify organizational and individual learning and development needs.Designs, develops, implements, facilitates, and evaluates learning and development courses, programs and processes.Advises, coaches, and collaborates with management and People & Culture on learning and development programs and processes to ensure consistent and effective implementation across the organization.Advises/coaches various management staff regarding learning and development methods and tools.Maintains awareness of industry trends and benchmark data in order to continually improve the quality and effectiveness of learning and development solutions and processes.QUALIFICATIONS 3–5-year experience in leading and managing teams.+5 years of experience in planning and designing training content with a proven track record of positive business impact and project management.English fluency is a must, at least B2 English proficiency.Deep business understanding of Originations & Collections (metrics, policies & procedures, compliance, working tools and systems).Show knowledge and understanding of learning theories, methodologies, and techniques, especially related to the use of technology in adult education.Computer literate and software savvy.Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems.SOFT SKILLS Consistently accountable for meeting and exceeding specified deadlines, ensuring timely delivery of all tasks and projects.Cross-functional collaboration.Scorecard management.Resource optimization.Strong business partnership.People management and engagement skills.Show exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including instructional, facilitation, and presentation skills.We are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer and consider all qualified applicants for employment opportunities without regard to race, age, color, religion, gender, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, veteran status or any other category protected by the laws or regulations in the locations where we operate.
