This dynamic position provides support to the Global Trade Compliance (GTC) Americas Regional Manager by helping the Americas team to develop and maintain the import compliance program in the Americas region, ensuring all import and export activities are completed in compliance with applicable government rules and regulations
Job Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures at the corporate level, ensuring site-level compliance with regulations and corporate policy.
- Support Sensata's Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) Trade Compliance Program (formerly Importer-Self Assessment ISA) by conducting trade compliance risk assessments, internal auditing, data monitoring and transactional testing to identify, quantify and report to the GTC Americas Region Manager results.
- Support the duty drawback program. Lead meetings with other business teams and work directly with customers and third-party drawback service providers, coordinate all the activities related to the Sensata's duty drawback program.
- Support activities and inquires related to US Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, and country of origin determination. Work directly with Sensata's HS Classification Center of Excellence (COE) team to determine HS classifications and respond to internal and external inquiries as needed.
- Support internal, external, and government-directed compliance audits and assessments.
- Support US Customs requests. Prepare all supporting documentation to respond to US Customs request of Information and notice of action (CF28, CF29).
- Create training materials, deliver team training, and provide support and guidance to several functional groups for import and export compliance issues.
- Interact remotely and work collaborative with global team members pertaining to Global Trade Compliance and cross-functionally related personnel, such as Engineering, Customer Service, Procurement, Sales, Logistics, etc.
- Coordinate and manage Sensata's supply chain security programs in the Americas region such as CTPAT.
- Support Sensata's US Customs Reconciliation program. Prepare the annual value and FTA reconciliation reports work with the customs brokers and Finance teams across Sensata to obtain the necessary information to perform the annual value reconciliation process.
- Support and coordinate activities relating to Post Summary Corrections (PSCs), Protests, duty refunds, 301 tariff exclusion refunds, etc. Maintain the proper tracker and charts with all the supporting documentation.
- Support new acquisition integration activities. Work collaborative with other departments and new acquisition teams to integrate import and export activities as part of Sensata's trade compliance program.
- Supports the broker's management activities. Monitor customs brokers performance, maintain customs broker Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) current, respond to daily request of information providing the necessary instructions according to the SOP guidelines.
- Support the GTC Americas Region Manager and/or other trade compliance management with the preparation of classification ruling requests.
- Support the GTC Americas Region Manager in new projects related to cost business analysis, cost-avoidance initiatives, new project strategies, new programs, certifications, and process improvement activities.
- Assist in preparation of letters, certifications, and respond to inquiries from customers, vendors, brokers, freight forwarders, and other parties involved in import and export transactions.
- Support Denied Party Screening activities, providing response to internal and external teams related to party screening.
- Prepare periodic updates and metrics reports for import and export operations.
Job Requirements
- BA/BS degree minimum; further education in trade controls strongly preferred
- 5+ of Import Compliance experience
- Strong understanding of the U.S. Customs regulations.
- Strong experience in import classification, in depth understanding and command of U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule, GRIs, Explanatory Notes, CROSS, and preferred experience classifying products across multiple jurisdictions.
- Transactional auditing experience on an ongoing, cyclical basis.
- Experience performing product qualification for Free Trade Agreements.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote-communication environment within a global reporting structure.
- Experience with trade compliance information systems (ACE, Global Trade Management software, screening systems, etc.).
- Working knowledge of JD Edwards, Oracle, and/or other ERP system desirable.
- Must be willing to travel from time to time. Travel expectation estimated 15% - 20% annually.
