Job Description and Responsibilities
Primary Purpose:
Drive accounting initiatives by managing assigned accounting functions, programs and processes, directing accounting transformation and
acquisition activities critical to governance and overseeing the completion of assigned accounting projects while providing consistency,
efficiency, and synergy.
Coordinate and supervise a group or section of accountants and participate in the most complex general accounting
projects.

- Direct resolution of accounting technical problems and assist/support staff
- Liaison between staff and technical accounting leads/directors
- Review and approve work prepared by various staff members, including entries and reconciliations
- Maintain journals or subsidiary ledgers
- Analyze and reconcile accounts including researching cause of discrepancies
- Perform financial and operating analyzes
- Research Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting guidance, summarize key points,
recommend associated accounting policies, entries or disclosures, and implement change
- Make recommendations for system, process, policy and procedure changes and follow through with recommendations to
implementation
- Assist in coordinating with internal auditors, external auditors and insurance department examiners
- Assist with and coordinate team/staff development
- Lead and participate in various special projects
- Lead and participate in implementation of new initiatives
- Assist with completing necessary statutory reporting for assigned insurance companies, including drafting new disclosures
- Assist with preparing external and internal GAAP financial data
- Review accounting issues and procedures and make recommendations regarding the implementation of accounting policies

- Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Related Areas
- Certified Public Accountant
- 8+ years of accounting experience
- 3+ years of supervisory experience
- Strong technical accounting skills, including thorough knowledge of GAAP
- Demonstrate knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
- Experience with insurance accounting and NAIC financial reporting
- Experience drafting financial statements and disclosures
- Experience in and ability to conduct technical research on new and existing accounting pronouncements
- Demonstrate a solid knowledge of the insurance industry
- Demonstrate effective writing, problem-solving and leadership skills
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of computerized accounting and financial reporting
- Demonstrate effective communication and interaction skills
- Detail oriented, organized, ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Exhibit a high degree of initiative, mature judgment, and discretion
- Ability to resolve conflicts and empathize with others is critical
- Strong negotiation skills in order to resolving issues
**Desired Skills**:
- Master's Degree in Accounting or Related Areas
- Audit or Sarbanes Oxley testing experience
- Experience managing long term accounting and financial projects
- Above average interpersonal skills and executive presence necessary to function effectively with multiple audiences.
- Demonstrates knowledge of SEC reporting/disclosure requirements
**Salary**: $74,105.92 per month
