**Role purpose**
The jobholder is responsible for capital management and planning for Mexico and for the integration of capital planning from Latin America entities. Self-reliance and the ability to work unaided are essential to the role. **Main activities**
- Develop a strategy for dealing with regulatory capital changes for Mexico and working with Regulatory Reporting to ensure adequate level of capital.
- Develop forward-looking strategic analysis and projections with respect to capital management to inform Mexico senior management and Board.
- Provide advice on the nature/structuring/timing of capital issuances by all Latin America entities in conjunction with Group Capital Management.
- Responsible for managing the Capital risks of Mexico's bank to ensure all are appropriately tracked and sensitivities understood and tested.
- Promote understanding of structural FX/IR risks to capital in the region and develop strategies for mitigating structural FX/IR risks.
- Evidence of progress in embedding risk and returns in capital allocation process and engagement of the business in this process.
- Responsible for ensuring all capital issuances within the region meet the requirements set by the regulators to qualify as capital.
- Work with Business Lines to understand the impacts of business initiatives on capital management.
- Communication with respect to regulatory initiatives with the Regulators and the Industry Body (ABM) in Mexico.
- Provide proactive capital planning support and advice to Strategy, Latin America Finance functions, businesses and regional sites undergoing change driven by regulatory and business initiatives.
**Leadership & Teamwork**
- Provide insight to Bank's Senior Management through management information and make recommendations to support the effective management of capital.
- Maintain and develop productive relations with other Finance teams and Business teams.
- Manage onshore and offshore teams.
- Proactively support training and development.
Requirements
- University degree in financial or quantitative discipline.
- Deep understanding of finance in the banking business, mainly Treasury, ALCM, Accounting, Tax and Risk management activities.
- Knowledge of Basel standards for capital risk management.
- Advanced proficiency and fluency in Spanish and English language given the daily interaction with stakeholders across the HSBC Group.
- Experience managing specialized teams for reporting and analysis.
- Ability to achieve desired outcome through the use of constructive debate.
- Ability to find simple and pragmatic solutions to complex problems, balancing the desire to build models with strong theoretical foundations with the need to develop models that can be explained and tested easily.
- Good communicator.
- Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
- Knowledge of the macroeconomic environment and HSBC business.
- To keep a current understanding of the Group's/Mexico's strategic imperatives, underlying business needs and restructure the capital and financing plans for the site, in conjunction with Group to meet those requirements.
- To understand and implement evolving and complex regulatory requirements with respect to capital issues. To actively monitor and influence regulatory changes to the capital regime for banks through liaison with Regulatory Reporting team.
- Strong financial analysis skills with ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy and ability to communicate complex ideas both written and verbally at all levels of the organisation including EXCO members.
