The Commodity Manager: Is a critical part of the Kauffman Engineering's development process and is responsible for formulating, communicating, and executing a sourcing strategy relative to their respective commodity which consists of the materials, supplies and components necessary for product manufacturing in the wire harness industry.
The Commodity Manager leads supplier sourcing / selection activities and successfully manages the supplier relationship to ensure that the supply chain can deliver high quality, cost-effective materials to support Kauffman's production requirements.
The Commodity Manager has a key role in ensuring that their respective commodity meets the technical and price specifications necessary for Kauffman to satisfy its internal manufacturing customers (Plants).
**Commodity Process Management**:

- Align supply chain commodities and strategy to Kauffman's objectives - for sustaining production, new product development & introduction, and research & development activities.
Ensures we have the right product, at the right place and on-time with a secured and qualified supply base.
- Responsible for AVL (Approved Vendors List) for commodity, supplier selection and qualification.
- Work closely with customers, plants, and engineering to define standard and custom product requirements.
- Work closely with plants, engineering, and suppliers to influence technical design decisions to meet technical capabilities, cost, and business objectives.
- Develop a commodity technology roadmap, aligning business requirements with supplier capabilities.
- Maintain supplier scorecard and evaluation.
Negotiate AP Terms.
- Ensure a competitive sourcing environment leading to continuous improvement in quality, cost, service, and technology.
- Interface with cross functional teams to assess current and future sourcing requirements.
- Responsible for quarterly executive business reviews of strategic sourcing plan that defines, among other things, product roadmaps, supplier capabilities and annual / quarterly strategic business objectives.
- Manage overall supplier relationships including supplier performance, capability development, cost and quality improvements.
- Maintain personal knowledge of market trends including rigorous analysis of market drivers and cost structures
- Periodic travel to supplier's manufacturing sites.

**Cost Management**
- Optimize costs through aggressive negotiation and value engineering during sourcing, utilizing expertise in design, input costs, processes, and competitive options
- Execute and manage supply contracts to minimize risk and total cost of ownership.
- Consistently identify and execute cost reduction projects for current production.
- Minimize inflation through effective negotiation and management of supplier price increase requests.
- Lead price change management process, ensuring reviews, authorizations, and changes are timely and accurately - Develop and communicate accurate forecasts of future price change exposure.
- Lead cost recovery activities when supplier performance failures impact excess costs to Kauffman.
- Support Kauffman's supplier initiatives including annual cost reductions, VMI/JIT, lead-time reductions, favorable payment terms, etc.
Negotiate with Tier II suppliers as needed.
- Drive the EDCR (event driven cost reduction) activities

**Basic Qualifications**
- College degree or industry accreditation in purchasing or 5 years' experience.
- Direct experience in supplier / supply chain management.
- Experience with Distribution network
- Supply chain experience managing cross functional teams in manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with world-class sourcing methods and tools.
- Experience with Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience with 80/20 principles
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel / Power BI

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Ability to assume leadership role with cross-functional peers.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to solve problems and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to be innovative in issues related to strategic sourcing, vendor relations, quality assurance and the associated measurement systems.
- Analytical skills (i.e., cost modeling, quotation analysis, supplier selection).
