**Description**This position is responsible for the operation of the ultrasound testing vehicle, owned by KCSM, which operate throughout the KCSM railway network.
This position test the KCSM rail network with manual ultrasound equipment, walking stick and with the ultrasound testing truck at the request of Management, including but not limited to the main track, sidings, yards and rail in inventory in warehouses.
Instructs or guides KCSM contractors and suppliers on site if necessary.
Stays up-to-date and meets the requirements for ultrasound testing.
**Accountabilities**- Manages daily operations of the ultrasonic testing equipment or Hy-Rail Verification Car.- Schedules the daily activities of the KCSM ultrasound testing vehicle.- Operates and carries out preventive maintenance of the ultrasound equipment in charge, manual equipment, walking stick and ultrasound truck.- Communicates daily with infrastructure field personnel and transportation personnel to perform tests in the most efficient way possible and comply with the ultrasound testing program on time.- Marks all the defects detected by the ultrasound equipment on the track.- Supervises and instructs the crew of the ultrasound vehicle to ensure they are operating safely and efficiently.- Verifies that safety procedures are followed and KCSM guidelines are followed.- Performs specific ultrasound tests on rails, change hardware, frogs and aluminothermic or electrical welds to identify defects and notify infrastructure field personnel for their repair.- Stays current on ultrasound equipment requirements, testing guidelines, and trends in the ultrasound rail testing industry, as well as making recommendations to KCS management as needed.- Understands the relevant business metrics and applies effective tactics to sustain a culture of operational effectiveness that produces teams of high performing, engaged and empowered operational leaders.- Identifies when a rule/regulation/policy has been violated and has one-on-one accountability conversations with an individual who has not met expectations, using KCS Candor, Aligning the Stars & KCS ABC's, and have the individual produce better results.- Demonstrates KCS's commitment to being ONE TEAM - Living a Speak Up Culture - by using communication and interpersonal skills to enhance inclusion, civility, respect, innovation, safety, customer focus, teamwork within KCS, while encouraging and enabling others to do the same.- Defines and communicates clearly the teams roles and responsibilities; holds people accountable for accomplishing objectives; recognizes and rewards people who achieve results and deliver on performance expectations; provides pinpointed (specific & measurable) feedback on performance
