Summary: Under general direction, this single position class plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the construction, maintenance and repair of water and wastewater distribution, collection, treatment and reclamation systems and facilities. The role includes overseeing, directing, planning, scheduling, and supervising individual employees and crews in performing a variety of construction, maintenance, replacement and repair projects.
Essential Job Functions (Illustrative Only): Supervise, plan, schedule, organize, manage, and evaluate the training and day-to-day work of employees.Develop, plan, prioritize construction and maintenance activities according to standards and best management practices.Assist the Operations Manager in the establishment and implementation of operating policies and procedures.Provide for the safety and security of employees, ensuring compliance with District and governmental safety policies.Participate regularly in meetings with the Operations Manager and other supervisors to discuss department activities.Maintain records and prepare a variety of reports related to construction and maintenance activities.Evaluate existing procedures and recommend modifications to increase operational efficiency.Perform other related work as required.Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
Knowledge of federal, state and local rules and regulations pertaining to distribution and collection systems.Principles of supervision, training, performance evaluations and effective personnel management.Safe operation of various tools and equipment used in the repair and construction of water and wastewater systems.Operation and application of Microsoft Office products.Safe work methods and safety precautions related to the job.Education and Experience Requirements: High school diploma or GED.Valid Class A California driver's license.Valid Grade 4 Water Distribution Operator (D4) certification issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in construction and maintenance.Special Testing: Drug/Alcohol Testing required under the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act.
Work Hours: The regular business hours of the District are 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Employee may establish an appropriate work schedule with prior approval of the Operations Manager.
