The Opportunity The Legal Manager's primary role will be to provide legal advice to all business divisions in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics and nutrition. He/She will report to the Legal Director, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The Legal Manager will provide legal support to business divisions, assess legal risks and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Duties will include analysis and provision of legal advice focused on business-oriented solutions on a wide range of matters, including general commercial, competition and consumer law, disputes/litigation, regulatory, privacy and employment work. The person in this role will assist in developing Legal services support processes and systems for the businesses and in educating business teams on legal-related issues. What You'll Do The Legal Manager's job responsibilities include the following: Providing proactive legal advice in all the activities of the company (multi division for Mexico, Central America and Caribbean). Providing legal expertise and creative contractual and commercial advice and solutions to appropriate levels of management. Providing legal support for Abbott in complex and strategic commercial negotiations with customers including in some circumstances complex multi-divisional transactions. Implementation of commercial risk assessment for bids, tenders, contracts and product business cases, specifically to identify and quantify legal and business risks, develop appropriate mitigation strategies and make a professional assessment of residual risks. Ensuring consistency of contracting across the region and proactively advising on updating contracting practices to reflect business changes. ACOUNTABILITY/SCOPE: High level of commercial, legal, regulatory and business acumen. Experience in pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, nutritional and/or medical devices a plus. Ability to interact with Senior Management and getting consensus. Autonomous, reliable, meticulous, self-confident, team worker, well organized, able to support high pressure and high-volume demand of work. Ability to work within and/or lead multi-disciplinary internal and external teams, and where appropriate work with limited guidance. Highly skilled in leading or supporting face-to-face complex customer negotiations, project management and transactions, risk awareness. Good judgement to prioritize strategically and elevate information. Required Qualifications Minimum Education: Appropriate designation as required by Mexico's regulatory jurisdiction/Law Degree Fully bilingual: Spanish and English Minimum Experience: Generally, 10 years of relevant experience Expert in practice area, demonstrated leadership competencies Excellent interpersonal skills Supervisory/Management responsibilities: Helps Legal Director to develop Legal Department strategy based on country input and counsel.
