**Job Description**:
**As a Sr Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering development and design of all mechanical functions and components of Electronic Control Units with simultaneous consideration of Design for Reliability, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, and Design to Cost.**
Technical responsibility of all mechanical product development aspects of Automotive Electronics, including the following:
- Technical lead of the group responsible for advanced development activities for electronics modules that enable autonomous driving/advanced driver assistance systems.
- Development projects include multi-core/high-speed hardware solutions and hardware based cyber security solutions, as well as audio video bridging (AVB).
- Responsible for driving the decision-making process to select engineering solutions required to meet customer and internal requirements, by using multiple engineering tools (e.g., CAD/CAE) considering simultaneously Design to Cost, Design for Reliability, Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly approaches.
- Responsible for creating, reviewing, and releasing product engineering deliverables and specifications such as 3D CAD Models, Tolerance Analysis (2D, 3D, Statistical), 2D CAD Component and Assembly Drawings, both internally and at the customer.
- Act as key technical interface for mechanics topics with customer engineering team and internal cross-functional teams (e.g., Hardware Electronic Design, Software, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, etc.) to support program milestones and deliverables.
- Responsible for the verification of requirements and functions by deriving CAE, analytical, and physical validation plans (DVP&R, PVP&R).
- Responsible for creating, reviewing, and releasing product development quality deliverables such as Engineering/Design Reviews, FMEAs, Special Characteristics, and Technical Risk Management.
- Lead the product industrialization from the mechanical perspective with the plants in consideration of Lean Manufacturing practices and DFMA.
- Lead the development of risk analysis and assessments during product launch phases.
- Support the technical competency development process for the group and the overall strategic objectives aligned to the product portfolio and service lines.
**Some additional responsibilities**
- Guide CAD model construction and ensure adequate guidelines and methods are followed. i.e., Model Tree, feature ordering, feature selection, parametric design
- Expertise troubleshoot modelling and assembly issues.
- High competency in GD&T to be able to derive the right tolerancing schemes from functional and non-functional requirements.
- Strong plastics and metals Design for Manufacturing including high expertise in tooling design, especially injection molding and insert molding.
- Strong experience with mechanical design of electronics including ECAD-MCAD interface and collaboration.
- Strong problem-solving skills, especially during early development and Launch.
- Understand the process to define the Product Architecture considering aspects of Thermal, EMC and Mechanical Loads and able to build a design with Top Down / Bottom-up approach.
- Strong technical risk analysis skills through FMEA, DRBFM, etc.
- Strong organization skills for process adherence and adequate documentation
- Strong leadership skills for self and others by coaching and competence development of junior engineers.
- Very strong communication skills verbally and written, customer negotiation and interface expected.
- Strong systems thinking, familiarity with V-Model and/or formal introductory training to Systems Engineering.
- Able to define, review and accept simulation work packages related to design decisions.
- Advanced cross-domain knowledge, able to interface with HW and SW design to derive the right functional understanding.
