**Responsibilities**
- Essential Function: Lead and retain a designated fleet of drivers while managing load pick-ups and deliveries based on Customer needs plus maximizing equipment productivity.
- Achieve and surpass transportation service levels of 98% for on time pick-up and delivery.
- Establish a good working relationship with each driver reinforcing safety as a primary concern.
- Work with planning personnel to obtain loads for their fleet and dispatch drivers on a timely basis using the on-board Rand McNally Communication system thus preventing layovers.
- Manage driver availability to maximize productivity of their fleet.
- Update records in the AS400/TMW Innovative System including track and trace, load changes and issues to maintain Customer Service department informed.
- Immediately address roadside breakdowns with the support of the Mechanic Manager with the purpose of reducing impact load pick-up or delivery.
- Perform A.M. and P.M. checks on trucks and note daily in the TMW Innovative system.
- Provide reviews on drivers to management as required, based on performance and attitude. Address issues immediately and request guidance if needed to stop incorrect behaviors that might damage the relationship between the company and its customers and drivers.
- Manage driver performance and take proper disciplinary steps if necessary. Know, support and enforce company policies.
- Verify that on every load drivers are knowledgeable of approved routes and reinforce the need to care for fuel efficiency (Reinforce the Miles per Gallon target per truck type).
- Lead efforts in resolving shipper pick up or consignee delivery issues thus maximizing our capacity utilization.
- Promptly address equipment over the road issues to ensure on-time cargo pickup or delivery.
- Perform due diligence in gathering all required documentation for any backhaul bookings.
- Position requires full time attendance.
**Qualifications**
- Two or Four year degree or at least 3 years of comparable office experience and/or training.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple projects with a sense of urgency.
- Must be willing to be on call 24 hours a day.
- Experience with AS400 / TMW Innovative Transportation Management System preferable.
- Experience with MS Office and computer literate required.
- Able to accurately calculate and negotiate rates. Solid grasp of numbers and margins.
- Must have the ability to deal effectively and tactfully with customers and employees and make decisions in a timely, professional manner.
