Since 1960, more than 7,000 professionals have supported partner organisations of Bread for the World in around 120 countries worldwide and shared their lives with people from another culture. DÜ selects these ecumenically and developmentally committed professionals according to standardised procedures, trains them in intensive preparation for service lasting several weeks and accompanies them during their time abroad and after their return.As a member of the "Rights" team, you will focus on international advocacy work in the context of "enforced disappearances". They are based in the "Litigation and International Strategy" department and report directly to the coordinator of the department.Responsibilities:Monitoring the work of international organisations and bodies on the issue of enforced disappearancesDevelopment of an international advocacy strategy including guidelinesProcessing and reviewing the cases represented by FrayJuan for submission to United Nations committeesAnalysing and preparing cases for international court hearingsCapacity building in international advocacy and public relations for the FrayJuan team, in cooperation with collectives of family members of disappeared personsCreation of an internal manual for international advocacy on the issue of enforced disappearances in MexicoPreparation of reports, materials and handouts on various aspects of the issue of enforced disappearances, for public relations work and for specific target groupsMinimum Requirements:Relevant university degree in law or comparable qualificationRelevant further training and at least two years of relevant professional experience, ideally as a lawyerSound theoretical and practical knowledge of human rights work with a focus on international law and restorative justiceKnowledge of the UN and Inter-American human rights system as well as cases of enforced disappearance and restorative justiceDiplomatic skills, tact and empathy as well as a high level of gender competenceConceptual and analytical thinking, organisational skills, excellent time management, initiative and independenceBusiness fluent in written and spoken English and SpanishHigh resilience and flexibility with regard to working hours and willingness to travel on businessThe placement is carried out within the framework of the "Civil Peace Service" (ZFD) programme on the basis of the German Development Aid Workers Act.
