The Senior Counsel is a senior professional position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to manage and direct day-to-day legal activities in coordination with the Legal team.
The overall objective of this role is to provide legal support, advice and guidance across a broad range of practice areas.
Responsibilities: Manage day to day activities of Legal team(s) within a country, product or sub-unitEvaluate employee performance and provide recommendations for pay increases, promotions, terminations, etc.Provide legal advisory services to business managers and defend legal mattersSupervise external counsel and resolve moderately complex issuesContinuously stay informed of regulatory changes, new regulations, internal policy changes and developments in the lawAllocate and coordinate resources and conduct planning and budgeting activities, as neededAppropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards. Qualifications:6-10 years of relevant experienceValid Bar license to practice lawBanking/financial industry experience or experience from big law firmExtensive knowledge and understanding of area of responsibilityComprehensive knowledge of local, state and federal laws and practicesConsistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communicationProven analytical and organizational skills Education:Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experienceMaster's degree preferred This job description provides a high-level review of the types of work performed.
