Job Purpose
- To be part of a 8 Man Fire Section reporting to the he Crew Manager (CM) and Fire Station Manager (FSM) and/or the Watch Manager (WM) for the effective daily running of the Fire & Rescue Service Crew.
- Role covers Fire Fighting duties on the RAF Ascension Island Base (AIB) and Ascension Island Government (AIG) estate.
**Responsibilities**:
- To participate in Firefighting & Rescue Operations at Structural Fire Incidents, Road Traffic Incidents, and or other related emergencies requiring the attendance of the Fire & Rescue Services.
- Firefighters will work as directed by the Watch Manager (WM) and or Crew Manager (CM) for the duty period, under the authority of the Fire Station Manager (FSM).
Firefighters are to carry out all duties in a professional manner IAW DFRMO standards.
- Respond to emergency calls requiring the attendance of the Fire & Rescue Services for Firefighting & Rescue Operations at, Structural Fire Incidents, Road Traffic Incidents, and or other related emergencies requiring the attendance of the Fire & Rescue Services.
- To provide "on call" Fire Protection for the nominated Duty Period, covering Ascension Island Base (AIB) facilities & Technical Sites, Traveller's Hill Site, & Married Quarters plus Ascension Island Government (AIG) assets.
- Full compliance with Defence Fire Risk Management Organisation (DFRMO) policy, IAW Operational Directives, Chief Fire Officer's Instructions (CFOI).
- Adherence to Health & Safety Regulations, within the framework provided for all Fire Service duties.
- Ensure Quality & Assurance (Q&A) policies within the Fire Service administrative structure are maintained to ensure Full Compliance is achieved at all DFRMO & QSHE Audits.
- Provide Fire Safety Awareness training to all HM Forces, MOD Employed Civilians, and Crown Servants.
- Undertake the testing of fire alarms and other fire related infrastructure as required.
Knowledge Skills & Experience
- All applicants must be trained to UK Mod Standards or UK equivalent.
Other nation qualifications not recognised by the MoD.
- Maintain the level of fitness necessary to carry out all the duties of a Firefighter.
- Recognised Fire & Rescue Service Firefighter qualification.
Operational Breathing Apparatus Wearer Assessment (opBAWA) Current, or equivalent.
- Ideally DFRMO or Local Authority Fire Brigade (LAFB) qualified, Ex-RAF, DFRS/DFRMO, Ex-Royal Navy Aircraft Handler, Ex
- LAFB.
- Full UK driving licence, including HGV.
Emergency Response Driver (ERD).
- Must have excellent Teamwork and Followership skills.
- Excellent communicator.
- Capable Public Speaker, ability to deliver Fire Safety Briefs.
- Working knowledge of IT systems.
Microsoft Excel/Word documents.
- Be capable of obtaining MOD basic level Security Clearance.
- Must be capable of obtaining a work permit from Ascension Island Government (AIG), via the submission and acceptance of a valid Police Background Check.
- Must be declared medically and dentally fit to gain employment on Ascension Island, via Mitie Occupational Health.

Mitie will pay a salary, monthly **site allowance and a bonus at the 13**th** and 27**th** month**.
Hours of work are 47.5 per week.
The contract duration is **27 months unaccompanied** **with 74 days leave** excluding weekends.
Air/sea transport for agreed holiday periods will be at Company's expense.
Free accommodation, meals at mess and work clothing will be provided.
