Greenhouse Jr. Manager (Breeding Nursery) Job Family: Research & Development Time Type: Full time Job Requisition ID: R0007005 Experience Years: 5-10 Years of Experience Employee Type: Regular Remote Type: Onsite About the Opportunity The Greenhouse Jr. Manager is responsible for R&D Breeding Nursery Greenhouse operations in Huamantla, Mexico. The primary objectives are breeding Nursery plant propagation for our blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry crops. This includes all aspects of long canes and rootblocks growing, strawberries seedlings, raspberry TC plug and tray plants, blackberry TC plugs, and blueberries propagation, as well as Nursery Applied Research plant requests, pest control, and greenhouse environmental control and growing. This role requires leadership and initiative to develop plans and drive high-quality results. Close collaboration with the farming, breeding, commercial nursery, and nursery applied research teams and continued development and motivation of the Greenhouse Operations team in a dynamic work environment are keys to success.
Responsibilities Implement growing strategies, including greenhouse environments, fertility, and pest management programs to deliver high-quality plants. Continue implementation and development of processes to ensure reliability and high-quality plant production. Oversee tissue culture as needed for production of stage 1 plants or specific breeding objectives. Develop the annual budget and operate within these guidelines. Document and apply SOPs for key processes to ensure quality work and facilitate continuous improvement and employee training. Develop and implement plans to deliver plants to breeders, applied research, and Test Plots in compliance with KPI (Plants on quality, quantity, and on time). Ensure strong collaboration and communication with breeding, applied research, farming, and commercial nursery. Be an advocate for safety. Work with employees to maintain a safe work environment by training and participating in safety programs, including those driven by human resources. Supervise greenhouse personnel including employee needs assessments, hiring, training, and development. Nurture a work environment motivated for employee development, innovation, and success. Candidate Profile Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Horticulture or Agriculture/Plant Sciences. Five years of experience in plant production or R&D. Advanced English. Knowledge and experience with greenhouse growing and environmental control systems. Plant propagation and Hi-tech greenhouse operation. Experience managing teams: 3 years. Curious and innovative thinker to grow our operations to meet increasing needs. Problem-solving capacity, demonstrating critical thinking and agility to address issues in a collaborative and timely manner. Able to travel internationally without restrictions.
