OVERVIEW
The Higher Education Program Officer, Accompaniment will be part of USCRI's Higher Education for Complementary Education Pathways Program, conducted in its Aguascalientes field office and implemented across Mexico. The Higher Education Program Officer, Accompaniment is responsible for planned and emergency attention to student beneficiaries of USCRI Mexico's higher education complementary pathways program, as well as following up on and accompaniment in the migration-related, medical, academic and psychosocial areas of the students. The Higher Education Program Officer is the person of contact for communication with students and provides direct attention. This position will report to the Higher Education Program Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement the accompaniment system of the Habesha Project students;
- Conduct quarterly interviews in compliance with the Habesha Project accompaniment system;
- Draft individual and quarterly reports of beneficiary accompaniment and define actions to be taken to see to the needs and worries of the students;
- Execute and supervise actions to be taken as per the accompaniment reports;
- Compile documents related to information concerning the academic accompaniment of the students, i.e. teachers or supervisors;
- Accompany students in their migration, academic, and medical processes for those who need support;
- Keep track of the expiration dates of the residence permits and passports of students;
- See to emergency situations of students during or beyond office hours, when required;
- See to requests for funds and/or additional services from the students;
- Seek partnerships and linkages that obtain concrete benefits in the form assets or services for the higher education program students;
- Organize activities during vacation periods for the students;
- Maintain constant communication with the students;
- Maintain constant communication with academic coordination to know the environment and the academic performance of beneficiaries of the program, and request support when needed;
- Keep higher education program student files organized and updated; and
- Give recommendations in the selection process, when it is requested.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; Master's degree in business, social services administration, non-profit management, related field, or equivalent experience preferred;
- Minimum of two (2) years of work or collaboration with student or civil society organizations, universities, international or government organizations regarding migration, human rights or vulnerable populations;
- Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian response, for refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and/or other vulnerable populations;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to government funders, donors, clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and experience, multicultural staff, community partners, and volunteers;
- Exceptional time management, attention to detail, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, financial systems, and database programs; and
- Commitment to USCRI's values including demonstration of respect for others and appreciation of a multicultural workplace;
- Must pass a criminal background check and other screening requirements; and
- Demonstrated support of USCRI's values by exhibiting respect for others, maintenance of confidential information and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
- Spoken and written Spanish and English is required.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- Satisfactory completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training; and
- Complete additional training as identified by supervisor or Human Resources.
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
- Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity;
- Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
