IDB Invest's shareholders recently approved a $3.5 billion capitalization to support a transformative business model, "Originate to Share," to attract greater private investment that drives development and climate impact in Latin America and the Caribbean. This will enable IDB Invest to nearly double its annual regional investments from approximately $8 billion to $19 billion.
IDB Invest has reorganized its structure to implement this new business model, creating the Industries and Cross-Cutting Themes Department. This department will be essential in defining the value proposition and strategies for sectors, developing the business, and achieving the institution's impact goals.
About this position We seek a dynamic and experienced leader to join as Infrastructure and Energy Managing Director.
The candidate should be an experienced banker with significant expertise in business development, deep knowledge of market trends and business needs, and strong relationships with market players and clients.
As Infrastructure and Energy Managing Director, you will report directly to the Chief Industries Officer and be responsible for achieving the business targets. You will oversee sector heads (social infrastructure, energy, transport, water, and sanitization) and four delivery unit heads organized in four regions: Andean Region (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela), Southern Cone Region (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay), Caribbean Region (Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago) and Central America (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Haiti, Mexico, Panama and the Dominican Republic Region).
What you'll do Actively participate in business development, especially at a high level of dialogue with industry clients.Lead the Delivery Units and Sector Heads, providing oversight and guidance in their strategic, tactical, and operational activities.Define business development strategies and a client relationship management plan for the respective sectors.Define sectoral priorities and roadmaps, including the definition of upstream work, and generate actionable sector-focused knowledge by region, ensuring its alignment with the IDB Invest Business Plan, the Institutional Strategy of the IDB Group, and Upper Management views.Ensure IDB Invest counterparts participating in the dialogue and engagement with governments receive sector support.Coordinate with the Cross-Cutting (climate, gender and social inclusion, MSMEs, and digital transformation) leaders in developing strategies and capabilities to deliver an advisory value proposition that supports clients in achieving developmental goals, providing industry and sector expertise.Provide strategic leadership and alignment in their respective sectors to develop key corporate, institutional, and IDB Group strategic initiatives and documents.Set goals for the Delivery Units, including allocating capital and budgets.Manage operational, human, capital, and budgetary resources at the unit level.Coordinate with IDB (VPS) and IDB Lab counterparts to promote synergies.Requirements At least 10 years of relevant experience as a banker with a proven business track record. Proven industry expertise and strong relationships with the market and clients in Latin America and the Caribbean.Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Law, Engineering, or another relevant field.Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank's official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is required.There are no citizenship requirements.Consanguinity: No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.What we offer Our institution is committed to offering a competitive remuneration package that reflects the value and expertise of our candidates.
