Nasdaq's Index Models are the backbone of how Nasdaq's index portfolios are constructed and maintained. Index Models incorporate all aspects of security universe selection, eligibility screening, and weighting algorithms. Index Models are used to conduct historical back-testing as well and ongoing Rebalance and Reconstitution activities according to each index's methodology.
The Index Model Specialist is responsible for the Standards and Quality of Nasdaq's Index construction, rebalance and reconstitution models. The Index Model Specialist will collaborate with stakeholders to design models covering all capital markets, but primarily equities.
The Index Model Specialist will also help drive Nasdaq's efforts to establish index construction, rebalance, and reconstitution techniques that are both industry-leading and industry-standard with an emphasis on increasing scalability while retaining the ability to service index partners that require customization.
**Responsibilities**:
- Design test cases for migrations of indexes from legacy platforms to new.
- Develop business cases for Index Model features that improve scale and time to market for new index launches.
- Identify potential edge cases and "what if" scenarios that could impact quality or maintainability of indexes.
- Produce documentation on Index Models that aligns with methodologies, code, and operational implementation.
- Use a variety of tools (R, Python, or in-house configuration management) to implement Index Models.
- Update existing Index Models as needed in R and Python for methodology changes or bug fixes.
- Work within an Agile project environment supporting time-sensitive initiatives such as new index launches, industry-driven business changes that have set target dates, and strategic changes that are established as part of the business planning cycle.
- Advise management on industry best practices and innovations throughout the Index industry.
- Bachelors Degree and 10+ years experience.
- Index industry experience, either with an index provider, and index data aggregator, or a passive portfolio manager.
- Ability to execute quantitative analyses and present findings in a business-friendly way
- Hands-on experience using R, Python, and SQL programming languages to collect, clean, and analyze data.
- Detailed understanding of global financial market data, including trading data, corporate actions, and company financial statements.
