PayPal is seeking an experienced attorney to expertly guide PayPal in Mexico on its mission to be one of the most trusted brands. Leveraging vision and a pragmatic approach, the Director, Legal - Mexico will set the overall direction for the legal team in Mexico, as well as provide strategic advice and thought leadership to the CEO in for Latin America and other key business leaders in Sales, Product, Risk, Global Customer Operations and Compliance. The Director, Legal will work also closely with legal colleagues who support PayPal in more than 200 markets around the world as part of a diverse legal team; specifically, on employment, privacy, litigation and regulatory matters. **Responsibilities**:
- Leading and developing the Mexico legal team by enabling the team to focus on critical matters for the Mexico business, while efficiently and effectively supporting routine business matters.
- Coordinating and supervising a wide variety of commercial activities involving all aspects of PayPal's operations in Mexico, which include: customer and vendor-facing agreements; supporting business development initiatives, M&A diligence, negotiation and integration activities.
- Supporting strong relationships with Mexican regulators, including the Central Bank of Mexico (BANXICO), the National Banking and Securities Commission of Mexico (CNBV), and the Federal Commission for Economic Competition of Mexico (COFECE).
- Advising the business on marketing, product and general legal risks, in particular in association with business development in market.
- Maintaining corporate governance and secretarial records for PayPal Mexico entities.
- Monitoring and advising on new and emerging legal and regulatory developments impacting Mexico operations, including identifying trends and potential impacts on business activities.
- Collaborating with legal and business colleagues across PayPal globally on matters involving the resolution of employment, litigation, tax and other issues.
- Partnering with Compliance and Risk Management on AML/CTF or other compliance matters.
- Providing legal advice in support of existing operations and business expansion opportunities for other Spanish-speaking markets in Latin America, as necessary.
- Deep, demonstrable financial services regulatory and contract negotiation skills and expertise, with an emphasis on payments laws, including the Mexican Fintech Law and the Payment Network Rules and regulations.
- Experience with oversight by and engagement with the CNBV, BANXICO and other regulators in Latin America.
- In-depth knowledge of cutting-edge IT, web, mobile, and payment ecosystem technologies (especially those used in the collection, storage and analysis of data) and their privacy and data security implications.
- Familiarity with, and strong interest in, financial services technology, mobile and alternative payments, as well as emerging technology.
- General legal background and experience with common issues related to employment, commercial, corporate, currency controls, foreign exchange, litigation and intellectual property. Experience with online businesses will also be advantageous.
