Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network.
The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications.
The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.Role PurposeProvides technical support to front-line workforce and manufacturing engineers making products in an industrial environment.
Works hands-on with manufacturing equipment and activities.
Identifies and supports process improvements.
Uses judgment, experience and initiative to resolve problems and make recommendations.
May help determine methods and procedures on new assignmentsKey Responsibilities Supports production line on a daily basis to help deliver yields, throughput and product qualityTrains and coaches front-line production employees (operators) on proper processes and proceduresUtilizes KT and Lean tools to reduce downtime, increase yields, and improve costs and product qualitySupports or leads optimization and standardization projects understanding DMAIC toolsFacilitates the sharing of learnings across shifts and across product linesWorks on equipment projects to reduce costs, downtime and/or defects and increase yieldsGives input into development and implements new equipment on the production lineProactively guides front-line production employees and technical teams to comply with safety, health and environmental regulationsCreates project plans that identify resources and accurate timelineMay be asked to participate in developing a new process or machine to improve the current processExperiences/Education - Required Math/Science BackgroundHas mechanical and/or electrical aptitudeHas had other roles that lead to a better understanding of the equipment and overall processesExperiences/Education - Desired Lean FundamentalsYellow Belt or Green BeltPEx toolsHas had several leadership opportunities Corning Puts YOU First!
