PPD's Language Services (LS) organization has a role for a Language Manager. This role will be overseeing and managing the operations and resources of a global translation team. The Language Manager will drive the global multi-lingual asset strategy and will be the ultimate owner of PPD's language quality strategy. The Language Manager will build strong relationships with Country teams to ensure translators are fully integrated with the Study teams and perform the final quality checks on any given project.
This role is for a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, who resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. This position fovuses on optimizing performance, processes, behaviors, and decision making in order to achieve departmental business goals and objectives.
**Main Responsibilities**
- Provides leadership or oversight with strong linguistic background, and ensures development and deployment of solutions that achieve business needs and objectives. Comes with strong background in multilingual TM, Glossary and Style Guide strategy.
- Manages team of translators by accounting for work assignments, staff development, resource planning and accountability, performance management and skill gap analysis.
- Leads, manages, and empowers through effective delegation to attain high performance and delivery for managers, team(s) and all participants.
- Directs the delivery of solutions in a collaborative cross functional global environment, and builds strong partnerships with Country offices around the Globe.
- Acts as a liaison between the team and business leadership. Provides progressive updates and aligns the team with the overall business objectives of the department and company.
- Contributes to overall department strategy, implementation and operations.
- Assists in the annual budget development process.
- Interprets, administers, trains and coaches compliance with policies, processes, and procedures for the team.
- Manages staff, which may include interviewing and selection, job description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, coaching and mentoring, employee counseling, and separations.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required**
- 5+ years of localization experience, preferably in clinical/life sciences.
- 2+ years of proven management experience in language services or related field including TM/MT/CAT tools technology.
Advanced leadership abilities and skills to include leading organizational change
Excellent people management and interpersonal skills including the ability to coach, mentor and develop staff
- Advanced ability to understand individual staff capabilities and to assign work appropriately
- Excellent executive presence and ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Close attention to detail to deliver concise and accurate requirements-based products and services
- Advanced ability to exercise independent judgement and decision making
- In-depth knowledge of fiscal management to include budgeting and forecasting
- Demonstrated skills with meeting facilitation and presentation
**Education / Experience**
- Bachelor's degree in translations, linguistics or language studies with significant translation studies from a recognized institution or higher education.
- Bachelor's degree in another field and 2 years of translation experience (preferred in clinical translations).
- If no Bachelor's degree then, 5 years of translation experience (preferred in clinical translations).
- Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 8+ years).
**Working conditions and environment**
- Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.
- Occasional drives to site locations with occasional travel both domestic and international.
