SummaryThe Materials Manager oversees and coordinates activities within the PC&L department, including planning and scheduling, shipping and receiving, inventory control, and customer interaction. Ensures timely planning and supply of production materials to the plant, inventory control within the plant, production scheduling, and delivery of finished products to customers through proper use of the materials control system. Manages technical and human resources to avoid additional costs such as downtime, expedited shipments, inventory loss, and excess or obsolete materials.
Responsibilities and ActivitiesComply with established safety policies and procedures.Participate in organizational efforts toward continuous improvement.Align with organizational objectives and values.Demonstrate teamwork by collaborating with others to enhance global performance and service standards.Direct and coordinate activities within the materials department.Responsible for plant inventory levels and key metrics.Develop and enforce formal policies and procedures; monitor trends and establish actions for improvement.Ensure raw materials and components are available for production.Lead scheduling and shipping departments to meet customer demands and expectations.Provide leadership, discipline, and support to ensure high standards of safety, cleanliness (5S), and professionalism within the materials department.Achieve/exceed performance metrics for customer satisfaction.Oversee all planning functions to ensure efficient and timely delivery of parts.Manage inventory and warehouse functions, including inventory accuracy.Direct loading and logistics functions in compliance with corporate standards.Plan and control inventory activities for engineering changes, part revisions, launches, and builds.Negotiate contracts with freight carriers and external storage warehouses as needed.Manage material handling, storage, and supply to production lines, ensuring accurate material handling transactions within the plant.Oversee demand, supply, and service part management.Administer production control and weekly requirement tracking.Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external clients.Analyze market conditions and delivery trends to assess current and future material availability; prepare market analysis reports.Develop administrative procedures and practices, workflow studies, sequence of operations, and office layouts for optimal results.Address quality and environmental matters related to the department.Adhere to environmental and climate change policies.Identify, control, and minimize significant environmental aspects in the work area.Ensure minimal inventory levels.Optimize procurement of supplies/raw materials.Enhance and secure local/national raw material sourcing.Perform other assigned duties.Education / Experience / SkillsBachelor's degree in Logistics/Materials Management or a related field from a 4-year college or university.Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials management and production control in a manufacturing environment.At least 2 years of experience in demand planning, production scheduling, inventory management, customer service, logistics, and regulatory procedures.Extensive knowledge of supply chain management and process development.Proficiency in PC software.Lean manufacturing experience is a plus.Strong problem-solving skills for scheduling issues with customers and suppliers.Leadership, planning, negotiation, and problem-solving capabilities.Ability to lead and motivate teams.Fluent in written and spoken English.Effective communication with customers, suppliers, and production personnel.Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.Capability to present information effectively and address questions from managers, employees, and customers.Mathematical SkillsStrong mathematical abilities are required.Financial and presentation skills are essential.Reasoning SkillsAnalyze problems logically and develop resolution plans.Prioritize tasks and maintain an organized approach to planning.Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.Interpret instructions and handle abstract and concrete variables.Strong analytical problem-solving skills for root cause analysis.Propose and oversee corrective actions.Computer SkillsProficient in MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and Lotus Notes.Knowledge of SAP Logistics module.Familiarity with MRPs like D365, AS400.Physical RequirementsMay require prolonged sitting for document review on a monitor.Perform plant process-related tasks.Authority LevelStop processes upon identifying unsafe acts or conditions.Halt activities not meeting standards.Suspend processes when quality issues are reported by customers.Enforce disciplinary actions for employees under supervision (validated by HR).Evaluate probationary or training periods for supervised employees.Assess performance evaluations for administrative staff in PMP.Grant unpaid leave permissions for supervised employees.CVG IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER Commercial Vehicle Group, Inc (CVG) is an equal employment opportunity employer such that all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
