Job Description Mechanical Design Engineer Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Design and Manufacturing Engineer with a strong background in sheet metal fabrication.
The ideal candidate will be responsible supporting the insourcing of sheet metal fabricated components.
This includes creating sheet metal CAD models, developing blueprints, defining quality specifications, conducting Design for Manufacturing (DFM) analyses, assessing costing, and maintaining a Product Data Management (PDM) environment.
This role requires a deep understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and the ability to develop documentation to support manufacturing and qualification activities in an efficient manner.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
Master's degree is a plus.
3+ years of experience in sheet metal fabrication (4000 hrs.)
Strong knowledge of sheet metal materials, manufacturing processes, and best practices Proficiency with design software such as SolidWorks/Creo/AutoCAD or similar CAD software Hands-on experience with CAM software or CNC programming is a plus Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills Ability to work independently and develop documentation to support the manufacturing and qualification of sheet metal components Understanding of quality control standards and methodologies Familiarity with cost estimation and budget management is a plus Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles is a plus Responsibilities: Sheet Metal CAD Modeling: Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models of sheet metal components and assemblies using industry-standard software (ie.
SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
Blueprint Development: Generate comprehensive blueprints and technical drawings with precise measurements, tolerances, and material specifications.
Quality Specifications: Define quality control criteria and specifications for sheet metal components to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Conduct DFM analyses to optimize designs for efficient and cost-effective sheet metal fabrication processes.
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T): Proficient with GD&T with hands-on experience in creating and interpreting complex engineering drawings.
Establish an understanding of the design and the designs application in order to capture critical information for manufacturing and inspection.
Cost Assessment: Evaluate the cost of materials, labor, and equipment required for sheet metal manufacturing projects and provide cost estimates.
Product Data Management (PDM): Maintain accurate project documentation, including design records, blueprints, CNC programs, and quality reports in a controlled repository.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, and quality control, to ensure seamless project execution and timely delivery.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings in sheet metal fabrication and drive initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality.
