.Metallic Component Fabrication EngineerA Metallic Component & Tooling Engineer is a technical expert who will provide stamping, tooling, and fabrication technical support and leadership to internal GSC North American and external supplier sites. This role involves leadership of projects such as product transfers, adding capacity, new tooling, and replacement tooling, while identifying ways to improve safety, quality, and service within stamping, sheet metal, and bus bar fabrication.
The engineer will work extensively with our supply base regarding Schneider-owned tooling for ongoing support, maintenance, and performance. This role requires extensive knowledge of fabrication equipment, including tooling and various types of technologies within the industry such as progressive, short run, staged, high-speed precision dies, deep draw, and multi-slide.
Familiarity with equipment such as servo electric, hydraulic, mechanical, thick turret, and laser is essential, along with knowledge of TPM, safety protocols (e.G., LOTO, safeguarding, die protection), NHID, and die sensing.Responsibilities:Work collaboratively with plants, engineering, safety, quality, purchasing, etc., to drive improvements in SE tooling and metal fabrication processes.
Serve as the technical lead and focal point for technology within North America.Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and external owner/general engineers of stamping suppliers.Represent the voice of the customer and drive safety, quality, delivery, and productivity through SE-owned tool and process management regardless of location.Manage capital for tooling, forecast tooling needs, quote, and execute projects in a timely manner.
Resolve or escalate barriers as needed.Collaborate with purchasing in selecting suppliers, establishing SPC parameters, and monitoring key metrics to ensure internal and external processes meet/exceed minimum product performance specifications, establishing continuous improvement programs to minimize costs and increase efficiencies.Continuously drive productivity and ensure SE tools are maintained in our supply base.Analyze and identify improvement opportunities to increase efficiencies, reduce scrap, and maintain/increase product performance per Schneider Electric and professional standards and customer requirements.Utilize and drive standardization with our Tooling Management software, Aveva, for this technology.Support technical audits in metal forming, sheet metal, and spring processes, and conduct periodic assessments of plant operations to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements.Assist purchasing as needed in the technical assessment and qualification of all outsourced contractors and suppliers.Support our industrial strategy with metal fabrication direction and technology support.Implement projects beyond the capability and scope of the plant to assist in annual productivity challenges
