The Monitoring Practitioner is responsible for implementing, configuring, and maintaining IT monitoring systems and tools used to ensure the health, performance, and security of our IT infrastructure and services. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to proactively detect, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum availability of systems and services.
Job responsibilities that are specific to the position:
Install, configure, and maintain IT monitoring toolsCustomize dashboards, alerts, and reports to meet the needs of different stakeholders across IT teams.Implement monitoring protocols for servers, applications, databases, networks, and cloud infrastructures.Optimize and scale monitoring solutions to accommodate growing business needs.Set up proactive monitoring and alerting systems to detect incidents such as system outages, performance degradation, and security breaches.Collaborate with support and engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve incidents quickly and effectively.Analyze monitoring data to identify performance bottlenecks and optimize system performance.Implement capacity planning and scalability assessments to ensure systems are adequately resourced.Develop and maintain scripts for automating monitoring tasks, data collection, and reporting.Integrate monitoring tools with other IT management solutions (e.g., ITSM, ticketing systems, CMDB) to streamline workflows.Create and maintain documentation for monitoring systems, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.Generate regular and ad-hoc reports for key stakeholders regarding system health, uptime, performance, and incident trends.Present monitoring insights and recommendations for system improvements to senior management.Work with DevOps, network engineering, and systems administration teams to improve system monitoring and response times.Serve as a subject matter expert for monitoring-related issues and share best practices with other teams.Train and mentor junior team members on monitoring tools and processes.Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies in IT monitoring and alerting.Evaluate new monitoring tools and make recommendations for improvements based on evolving business needs.Participate in post-incident reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall system reliability.TECHNICAL SKILLS
Understanding of IT infrastructure (servers, networks, storage, databases) and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).Familiarity with automation and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).Experience with log analysis and management tools (e.g., ELK Stack, Splunk).Knowledge of SNMP, WMI, and other protocols for systems monitoring.Familiarity with alerting systems and thresholds tuning.Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to analyze system logs and performance metrics to identify root causes of issues.Ability to quickly assess system health and provide effective solutions.JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree preferred.ITSM foundation training preferred.PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
