**Job Description**:
The Packaging Engineer will undertake packaging development activities in an effort to improve cost and/or quality of the packaging and the packaged product. Activities will include coordination with Purchasing, Quality, Assembly, Distribution, Marketing, and other Development Engineering team members to gain support and approval for all packaging concepts, systems and documentation. Continuously evaluate current packaging for optimization and quality improvements.
Job Functions
- Development of new packages or improvement to present packaging concepts to meet standards of quality, function and cost.
- Draws detailed specifications and descriptive materials in Unigraphics for new package ideas and improvements on existing packages.
- Manages packaging efforts within larger project efforts to support the deliverables of the department.
- Conducts necessary tests of new and improved packages and packaging materials.
- Prepares packaging design reports and maintenance of related records.
- Maintains working knowledge of packaging developments and new materials in the industry and researches those for use by the company.
- Assists in production problem-solving as it relates to the functionality of new packages.
- Conducts cost analyses on new or proposed changes in packaging.
- Assists in the development of new merchandise techniques and display materials for new packages or packaging changes.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**:
- Educational Requirements:
Four-Year College Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related technology, Required
Years of Experience:
3-5 Years Experience in a technical manufacturing environment, Required
- Specific Knowledge:
- Understanding of Transit and packaging testing equipment utilized by recognized ISTA facilities
- Understanding of current industry standards as well as related governmental and international
environmental regulations.- Good problem analysis and record keeping skills
- Forklift License will be required but is not necessary at time of hire
- 3D CAD software experience
- Computer literate with experience in MS Excel, Word, Project and Access.
- Some travel may be required.
- Technical reporting, organizational skills
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
- Wide knowledge of laboratory instruments and fixtures is a plus.
- CAD/CAE solid-modeling software, preferably Unigraphics (NX)
