Summary
Packaging Engineers are responsible for creating, developing, testing, and optimizing packaging solutions that are functional, cost effective, and fit all shipping/storage specifications.
Packaging Engineers are innovative problem-solvers who excel at understanding the purpose of the packaging, the needs of the end users, and potential obstacles that need to be overcome.
Packaging Engineers work closely with all Business Units and in-house/offshore teams to help deliver packaging solutions that meet the production agenda.
Essential Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Consulting with Chapter and BU team members to establish and evaluate packaging requirements and deliverables at Innovation and Pre-Prototype Huddles
- Effectively communicating on a timely basis with Business Units and other stakeholders to ensure clear understanding and acknowledgment of project/program status, risks, actions, and outcomes
- Working directly with the Project Team to establish ways in which to innovate by considering Design for Sustainability, Design for Value, Design for Manufacturing and Design for Retail principles.
- Establishing good working partnerships with Packaging material Suppliers; ability to get quick response; right first time.
- Pursuing Packaging Sustainability Initiatives and striving to reduce, re-use and go green.
- Developing specifications for all custom packaging requests that meet the Commercial agenda and Manufacturing requirements against the agreed timelines.
- Developing packaging solutions using CAD software
- Creating technical drawings and instructions for use in Package Production
- Ensuring quality and safety standards are met and that materials are evaluated for compliance and applicable legislation.
- Evaluating new package concepts and technologies
- Generating all packaging-related documentation
- Performing root cause analysis as related to design, material, or process failures.
- Documenting and reporting packaging tests and results
- Keeping abreast of new technologies and advances in the greater packaging industries.
- Ensuring all safety regulations are met.
- Ensuring format of deliverables and quality of presentations are in line with the Array Way standards.
- Following all policies and procedures defined in the company quality system.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Reporting any Health and Safety issues to the supervisor immediately.
- Performing daily routine housekeeping of work area.
- Conducting all work duties as per the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, the health, safety & environmental policies, procedures, and policies of Array Canada.
- Training others as directed.
- Performing any other reasonable assignments given by Department Management or his/her designates.
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline with at least 2-3 years of previous experience in packaging engineering (or related) experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of CAD Software, SolidWorks, Internet Software, Word Processing Software, Spreadsheet Software, and Database Software.
- Strong knowledge of packaging manufacture methods, packaging materials and machine interface.
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and discipline to procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Strong teamwork and collaborative skills
- Quality-driven with great work ethic, highly motivated, tenacious, and meticulous in execution
- Able to read and interpret documents such as design briefs, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to manage simultaneous projects and timelines effectively.
- Good planning, multi-tasking, and project management skills
