Key Leadership role for an established businessBased in the Falkland Islands About Our ClientThe Falkland Islands Company (FIC) provides essential services to the people of the Falklands. Established by Royal Charter in 1852, FIC's activities include retailing, property, automotive, insurance, tourism shipping and fishing agency services.Operations in the Falkland Islands date back over 160 years to 1852 when the Falkland Islands Company was granted its Royal Charter. The company has steadily widened its activities to provide a broad range of essential services to the people of the Falklands. The islands now have a population of around 3,000, with approximately 37,000 tourists visiting the islands in 2012.The company's main areas of activity embrace retailing, residential and commercial property, travel services, insurance, agency services for cruise ships and fishing vessels, and the provision of freight and shipping services to and from the islands. Job DescriptionThe role is to provide commercial and financial leadership to a portfolio of FIC businesses owned by FIH group plc, through the setting and delivery of strategic initiatives, active leadership of people and processes, a high level of stakeholder interaction, and governance of the businesses' financial reporting and compliance requirements. You will provide finance leadership to the retail business, construction business, automotive business, and support services. Working closely with the MD, Commercial Director, and other directors, the incumbent is expected to identify, analyze, and implement opportunities to enhance business performance and partner with the leadership team to add value to decision-making and contribute to the implementation of the overall strategy.StakeholdersUnderstand and deliver stakeholder needs while building effective long-term relationships.Use commercial acumen to ensure we manage projects profitably and maximize returns to the enterprise.Drive profitability by ensuring correct financial oversight during tender processes through to successful implementation.Business partner with MD and other senior stakeholders to develop strategic objectives, and then to ensure the business meets them.Financial LeadershipBuild and develop high-level relationships with external agencies, including banks, key customers, and auditors.Positively respond to both our internal and external customers through effective communication on a timely basis and personal accessibility/credibility.Constantly seek to improve quality, service, and efficiency. Contribute to the evaluation and development of the respective business strategies.Identify, analyze, and resolve business risks, as well as opportunities and solutions to enhance business performance.Liaising with advisors, when necessary, ensure that new initiatives are planned in a tax-efficient manner for the FIC entities.Create and own the financial strategy that will underpin the businesses' future plans.Identify future financing needs and engage with Group CFO in securing external finance.Lead and own the financial planning and analysis of the business delivering accurate budgets and forecasts within parent company timetables.Prioritize efficient working capital management of the businesses through management of stock, receivables, and payables.Manage the loan book to both internal and external clients ensuring FIC lends responsibly.Promote active management of costs through the relevant businesses.Finance Processes, Procedures and ReportingLead and deliver financial reporting, including monthly reporting, budgets, and forecasts, ensuring deadlines are met.Develop processes, systems, and infrastructure to support businesses and enable growth.Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the monthly reporting.Develop financial models and/or analysis for new initiatives for delivery to internal or external stakeholders.Manage cash flow and own the cash forecasting cycle and reporting of the business including a reliable 13-week cash flow reporting cycle.Conduct weekly analysis and update of retail performance looking at transactions, price, cost, and volume data.Financial GovernanceEnsure financial integrity of the Balance sheet, carry out monthly reviews and ensure the team is performing reconciliations.Accurate and timely preparation of annual financial statements in line with IFRS.Support the annual audit process, ensuring these businesses have a clean audit opinion and meet necessary timelines.Meet all the necessary tax filing requirements for the respective businesses.Ensure that at all times the businesses meet their finance covenant obligations.Meet all FIH Group Financial reporting requirements.The Successful ApplicantYou will be a CCAB or equivalent qualified accountant with a proven track record of achievement, with the ability to drive and manage a diverse workforce. The ideal candidate will have worked in or had exposure to local authority or a civil service environment and be used to the highly political nature of working with a wide-reaching organization.You will have led a thriving team and established a culture in a previous role. It is also important that you have previously held a senior management position with regular exposure to or being part of the Executive Team. Working with boards or committees is also essential to be successful in this role. You will have a track record of achieving results through others and proven commercial acumen with the ability to contribute to decision-making. Experience of transforming finance departments into well-controlled departments capable of reporting on time is essential. What's on OfferCompetitive salary and relocation package.
