Postdoc Research Corrosion of Light-alloys for Commercial Nuclear Reactors ApplicationsPostdoc research Corrosion performance of alloys for research reactor applications. Research reactors (RRs) comprise various civil and commercial nuclear reactors. Although they are not used for power production, they play a crucial role in the development of nuclear science and technology. Substantial damage to the material's microstructure and mechanical properties can occur during service. However, there is a limited understanding of the materials' degradation mechanisms, and insufficient materials data (specifically fracture toughness data) are available.
Your role in the project is to improve our current understanding of light alloys corrosion behaviour during operation conditions and evaluate the effectiveness of prevention and mitigation strategies. The research will focus on the performance of the alloys under aqueous environment exposition.
You will be part of the Localised Corrosion and Electrochemistry team in the Materials Science and Engineering department at TU Delft. You will work in close collaboration with NRG and other research partners within the project.
RequirementsWe seek an outstanding experimental researcher with experience in corrosion research of (light) metal alloys and mitigation strategies. We are looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive researcher who wants to develop their know-how and experience in a challenging academic environment.
Applicant must:
Hold a PhD in the field of corrosion science and/or engineering.Have proven and extensive experience with conventional (corrosion) electrochemical experimental analysis such as PDP and EIS.Experience optionally on surface analysis methods (e.g., SEM, XRD, XPS, AFM).A critical and creative approach to the research is essential, with good problem-solving skills.Have proven experience writing scientific publications and preparing communications for scientific and technical meetings with project partners.Motivated to work in an international, multidisciplinary, and academic-industrial team.Have proven excellent written and spoken English skills.Conditions of employmentSalary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The TU Delft offers a customizable compensation package, discounts on health insurance, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.
For international applicants, TU Delft has the Coming to Delft Service. This service provides information for new international employees to help you prepare the relocation and to settle in the Netherlands. The Coming to Delft Service offers a Dual Career Programme for partners and they organise events to expand your (social) network.
