.**Careers that Change Lives**A Day in the Life**The Principal Molding Engineer is responsible for owning and driving mold development and injection molding projects through adherence to established product design, scientific injection molding process, tooling, resin, and equipment.The key responsibility of this position is to lead new injection molding qualification activities across molding suppliers, contract manufacturers and internal Medtronic sites.The Principal Molding Engineer is part of a global engineering organization for Medtronic's Molding & Capital Tooling Team. Their work is mainly independent, expecting < 25% travel with Manufacturing Sites or Suppliers, and they will assume a team lead role for Mold/Tooling Projects.Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.- Experienced in setting up robust injection molding processes on multi-cavity molds and insert molding- Highly proficient in generating qualification requirements and reports for injection molded components- Use and understanding of Statistical Tools (Design of Experiments, Measurement System Analysis/Gage R&R, Process Capability and Statistical Process Control)- Proven leader of cross functional teams including R&D, Marketing, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Quality, Sourcing and Supply Chain through qualification processes- Develop and maintain strong working relationship with functional groups (R&D, ME, Quality Operations, Supply Chain and Regulatory)- Strong history of mentoring engineers in overall personal development- Strong organizational skills- Analytical problem solving- Demonstrated initiative and innovation- Ability to transfer the technical knowledge to manufacturing operations- Review/prepare test protocols and reports in order to qualify part and product changes- Work remotely across time zones- Collaborate cross functionally with team members (i.E. R&D, Regulatory, Suppliers/Contract Manufacturers, Marketing, Biocompatibility, and Operations)- Solid understanding of Plastic Part Design / Injection Molding Guidelines**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**- Bachelors in Engineering (Plastics, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred) and minimum of 7 years of experience- Masters in Engineering (Plastics, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering preferred) and minimum of 5 years of experience**Nice to Have**- Experience with contract manufacturers- Knowledgeable in the use of 3D CAD packages & Data Analysis software- Understanding of Mold Flow analysis- Rheology knowledge of both Crystalline & Amorphous plastics resin (examples include polycarbonate, acrylic, PVC, Nylon and Co-polyesters)- Use of Society of Plastics Industry Standards (SPI) for mold build classification and texture/surface appearance recognition- PPAP and Agile MAP experience is a plus**About Medtronic**Together, we can change healthcare worldwide
