The Grid Edge team covers cutting-edge topics in the energy transition, including transportation and building electrification, microgrids, and grid modernization.The analyst will be a subject matter expert on data centers, leading the North American coverage of that topic. This includes data center capital deployment, load growth, and on-site energy management. The analyst will establish and maintain relationships with data center investors, developers, operators, and technology providers, and will conduct hands-on research, publish reports, develop and maintain data sets, and provide critical intelligence that informs strategies in the power sector.Responsibilities:Be a subject matter expert in data centers, including:Data center investment, development, and operationPower access, interconnection, connectivity, and on-site energy managementTrends in AI, cloud, enterprise, and crypto use casesState and utility policy, including tax incentives and interconnection processesConduct hands-on research and guide supporting data analystsTrack commercial developments: Capital and debt investment, M&A, JVs, and partnershipsTrack project development and pipelinesTrack technology trends, including GPUs and cooling technologiesDevelop and maintain a market-level data center load and capex forecastProduce multiple research reports throughout the yearSupport Wood Mackenzie clients and assist with customer acquisitionPresent at conferences, moderate panels, and engage with mediaTravel infrequently as necessaryQualifications:5+ years of experience in the data center industryIntermediate to expert understanding of the data center sectorA Bachelor's or a Master's degree, preferably in engineering or financeWillingness to invest time in hands-on data gatheringExcellent written and oral communication skills in EnglishExcellent organizational skillsNice to Haves:Prior experience as a research analystModeling experienceExpertise in the power sectorExperience in line managementEqual Opportunities:We are an equal opportunities employer, committed to recruiting the best people regardless of their background
