Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network.
The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications.
The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.Role PurposeServe as a global process owner responsible for the alignment, performance improvement and optimization of OCS cable processes.
The individual will identify and execute process improvement, small (A Band) to medium (A to B Band) size cost reductions, and capability enhancement projects in support of the process improvement roadmap.
The individual will also support plant engineering and operations to deliver manufacturing improvement initiatives, including variability reduction, defect reduction, and process control improvement.
The employee will review plant process changes to assess for global application and support the plant in monitoring process performance.
This will be done through development of deep knowledge of why the process works, process capability, performance, and control methodology.Key Responsibilities Individual contributor, lead or team member with ownership of a part of the accomplishment within Business Unit/Area, Plant, Manage small - moderate scope projects with multiple variables, unclear solutions, and many stakeholders Evaluation process cost, quality, and capability alternatives, institutes continuous improvements to existing manufacturing operations through application of sound scientific methods Plan, organize and execute work-streams on projects to deliver process improvement and step change capabilities Role includes individual contributor and project work-stream leadership responsibilities as necessary Work with and facilitate alignment between manufacturing, development, and upstream process experts to deliver step change and improvement of cable processes Manage internal Corning resources to complete project deliverables Apply knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges Utilize statistical tools, engineering data, and DMAIC/DESGN/Lean methodologies to develop process understanding to support robust manufacturing processes.
Support development and execution of roadmap and project portfolio Elaborate/propose product and process improvement qualification plans.
Complete technical reports for internal publication Support problem-solving in manufacturing, including root cause identification and resolution Apply process engineering knowledge, skills and expertise from concept through delivery of process and equipment at production areas Experiences/Education - RequiredEducation: Bachelor of Science in the following Engineering disciplines: Chemical, Materials, Mechanical, Electrical or Polymer/Plastics Engineering Work Experience 2– 4 years' experience in plant engineering or an engineering support role to a manufacturing operation Skills Effective, high quality oral and written communications skills with English Strong project management skills.
Detail oriented and able to perform with limited supervision Good problems solving and analytical capabilities (particularly statistical analysis) through using DMIAC, KT, TRIZ…etc.
Good understanding of statistical analysis (histograms, regression analysis, Hypothesis Testing, DOE, standard deviation, GR&R, DOE etc.)
Proactive, independent, flexible, quick learner Leadership potential demonstrated on project teams responsible for implementation of new processes or equipment into manufacturing.
Good Organizational skills Excellent computer skills (working knowledge and use of Microsoft Office) Customer oriented; meets customer needs with quality results Self-starter who can satisfy their objectives and timelines Ability to work in a team-based environment and participate on a matrix project team.
