.The primary responsibility of Sustaining Product Engineering is to execute engineering support of production products.
This includes launching product extensions, cost reduction projects, quote new parts, product improvements for manufacturing or customers and functional evaluations for requested deviations. What your background should look likeCommunicate directly with Customers to understand and document all product requirements.
Communicate directly with supply base to insure that purchased products meet required specifications.
Communicate directly with manufacturing plants on any new product or quality-related issues.Using Customer design manuals and specifications, translate drawings from Customers into manufacturable detailed prints that can be understood by the production facility to reliably produce the cable assembly.
Generate a detailed BOM for each drawing part number; review BOM details and any special requirements with Costing function.Insure that all Customer requirements are clearly specified on the detail product print - including any special requirements, packaging, testing, etc.Clearly communicate to the production facility and to Product Management all special requirements and/or potential manufacturing challenges.Respond quickly to Customer issues and support Quality Engineering by driving root cause analysis and corrective actions for material, mechanical, and electrical problems.Manage the new release process by creating NPR's for new part numbers and distributing to all impacted functions.
Insure all required information is communicated; disposition customer cross-reference.Create ESR's and timing for building prototype cable assemblies or shipping components/cables to Customers.
Provide full support for any samples required for DVT & PVT to the Test Laboratory. As Tier 1 supplier, provide on-site customer support, as required, at all OEM B&A plants during product launches.Coordinate activities with outside supplier to generate 3D models for packaging and routing of cable assembles within the vehicle; generate illustration drawings for product installation in vehicles.
Be familiar with and use Customer software (Ford WERS and Doc Man) for two-way communication of product Alerts, Concerns, Notices, etc.Manage the engineering change process (ECR/ECN) to improve product manufacturability, reduce overall costs, address customer-requested changes, etc.
Interact with various functions to insure engineering change is clearly understood and properly coordinated.Understand Industry and Customer specs to determine applicability to product.Interface with other Region's PE's for imported product issues, manufacturing/quality/delivery issues, etc.Support manufacturing facility on processing issues related to product design/requirements.Understand and comprehend TE engineering and manufacturing systems - ECR / ECO, DM Tec, Star Tec, RTS, EC.TEC etc
