Primary Purpose:
This position is responsible for organizational technical expertise for the materials properties of Metals & Oxides (Grids, COS, Leady oxides). This role will serve as the technical SME for the assigned materials and related chemical processes for the entire product life cycle, cradle to grave, including development, launch, and production.
Primary Duties:
Support mechanical design of grids, COS in the interaction with battery processing (drawing, simulation, alloying, mechanical properties).
Support technical knowledge for Materials/process/design physics & chemistry (synthesis & characterization of materials related to battery industry & in the interaction with lead alloys mechanics, corrosion resistance and lead-acid battery electrochemistry).
Explore ideas and execute Design of experiments for hypothesis testing using lab techniques for validation of battery materials (XRD, BET, electrochemistry, mechanical testing, etc.) following statistical protocols at lab and plant levels.
Follow up & development of designs/formulations of lead-acid battery metals and oxides from prototype phase up to project launching and validation. Following PPAP automotive rules per customer, cost & time requirements.
Harmonize existing designs of metals and oxides for the global Clarios organization, keeping an overview over Americas regions to enable supply safety combined with lowest cost.
Lead & support global test methods and specifications for analysis and valuation of metals and oxides at lab & manufacturing levels within the organization or for external suppliers or customers according to automotive industry.
Knowledge of patent applications and patent claims.
Support failure analysis and optimization of product/process/materials for customers & manufacturing plants using lab techniques, statistical tools (six sigma) and quality tools for problem solving (5s, KT, 8D, 5 whys, and others).
Contribute to customer requirements clarification, support IAM, OEM engineering teams in customer discussions/meetings.
Support battery entire life cycle on strategic projects for suppliers and customers project launching.
Interaction with external institutions and Clarios internal engineering academy for training purposes.
Support DFMEA review of assigned projects.
Manage and contribute to keeping the Design Guidelines updated.
Identify best practices, share, document and implement among regions.

Qualifications:
Degree in chemistry / physics / Mechanical, Materials engineering.
Scientific maturity / technical expertise.
Engineering experience in lead acid battery for automotive industry in Materials, chemistry, R&D, lab testing, etc.
Fundamental understanding and experience of Processes / Materials / design Physics and Chemistry and lead alloy parts in the interaction with lead-acid battery electrochemistry.
Understanding and experience of lead alloys for molded and hard formed lead parts.
Expertise on advanced Pb-acid battery material/chemistry/physicist for lead-acid battery materials & electrochemistry assessment.
Experience with statistical tools (DOEs, six sigma) and quality tools (5s, KT, 8D, etc.) for failure analysis and problem solving with suppliers and customers.
Experience with product launching according to automotive industry rules (PPAP, APQP, DVP&R, DV/PV builds, data analysis, problem solving, design review etc.).
Hands-on experience in product performance, battery testing & battery recycling (SLI, EFB, AGM batteries) for Automotive, Systems.
Hands-on experience in Pb-acid manufacturing process (mixing, pasting, hot plate welding assembly, etc.).
Language: proficient English.
Professional software skills (MS Office, statistical software i.e. MINITAB, CAD).
Strong communication skills.
Other:
Travel expectation is approximately 50%+ between Monterrey and other Clarios sites, suppliers, and customers.
