Job Description: SGM is seeking a full-time Water Resources Consultant II-III / Scientist III to reside in the Durango, CO office to support a wide variety of water resource projects and maintain strong working relationships with other SGM disciplines to foster timely execution of other environment, civil, drinking water, and wastewater projects as needed. Work could include collecting various types of water resources and water rights data in the field, processing that data, interpreting the results of data collected, ArcGIS mapping, and preparing data and figures for technical reports that summarize project findings. Work may also entail designing data collection programs, regulatory permitting support, water rights analysis, project assets management, and grant applications and/or project financial planning.

Job Duties:Develop initial draft project scopes/budgets without significant input required from others.Support competitive proposal development and may lead proposal efforts for smaller projects.Often lead development of project calculations and deliverables.Manage scope, budget, schedule (with oversight) for small-/mid-sized projects or major tasks on large, multidisciplinary projects.Execute less defined technical and data analysis tasks.Ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.Provide informal mentoring to Water Resource Consultant I, II and other junior staff members.Help secure repeat clients through project performance. Help acquire new business by recognizing and communicating with supervisor about business opportunities through clients, projects, etc.Develop close working relationships with client staff. Assist with identifying new opportunities with existing clients.Participate in developing/implementing team business development plans and strategies. May participate in "thought leadership" activities.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in related Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrology, or related field.Current PG or PH license.Thorough understanding of water resources principles, practices, and tools.4 - 10 years of experience in water resource consulting and management including ground water, surface water hydrology, water rights, and water quality services.Experience with and continued desire to learn Colorado water rights and water resource management, including local, state, and federal drinking water, wastewater, ground and surface water rules and regulations.Able to communicate with staff including project leadership and communication of client needs.Outgoing and willing to meet and interact with a wide variety of people.Proficiency with ArcGIS Desktop and/or ArcGIS Pro software.Well-versed in Excel, including tracking, sorting, filtering, and manipulating complex datasets; using high level formulas to concisely summarize data (VLOOKUP, SUMIF, etc.); creating user-friendly tables and charts to visually display complex data.Strong technical writing skills.Thorough understanding of safety regulations related to assigned projects.Ability to identify and solve complex problems.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Valid Driver's License.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with permitting and Clean Water Act compliance is preferred but not essential.Experience with data analysis, processing, and/or visualization software.Physical Requirements:Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to travel to various project sites, including mountain locations.SGM is seeking applicants who have the desire to provide quality service, enjoy working in a team atmosphere, and want to be a part of a company that finds as much value in their employees as they do their clients.
