This is the most senior skill level without supervisory duties. Position provides functional advice or training to less-experienced personnel.Key Responsibilities:- Perform accounting functions for insurance companies to include the review and preparation of more complex accounting journal entries and the preparation of the financial statements- Analyze and reconcile more complex accounts with composition based sub ledger reports; research cause of discrepancies and take action to ensure accounts are balanced- Prepare financial and operational analysis/results for inclusion in presentations to Senior Management and to external parties to include external auditors, SEC, NAIC, and Department of Insurance.- Participate in the review and evaluation of existing and proposed internal controls of manual and automated operations to safeguard company assets and to comply with government regulations- Review accounting issues and procedures and makes recommendations regarding the implementation of accounting policies- Participate in the identification and development of analytical tools, reports, and systems to meet the needs of management- Work with internal auditors, insurance examiners, and external auditors to answer questions and provide backup- May have supervisory responsibility, which may include evaluating performance, recommending salary changes, assisting in the interviewing and selection of new personnel, and providing training and development to direct reports- May direct support staff in the preparation of report/department operations
