**Primary Purpose**Under limited supervision, responsible for the more complex accounting activities associated with performing journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analyzes, process changes, research, problem resolution and other accounting related projects.. This is the most senior skill level without supervisory duties. Position provides functional advice or training to less-experienced personnel.**Some essential Duties and Responsibilities**:- Performs accounting functions for insurance companies to include the review and preparation of more complex accounting journal entries and the preparation of the financial statements- Analyzes and reconciles more complex accounts with composition based sub ledger reports; researches cause of discrepancies and takes action to ensure accounts are balanced- Prepares financial and operational analysis/results for inclusion in presentations to Senior Management and to external parties to include external auditors, SEC, NAIC, and Department of Insurance.- Participates in the review and evaluation of existing and proposed internal controls of manual and automated operations to safeguard company assets and to comply with government regulations- Reviews accounting issues and procedures and makes recommendations regarding the implementation of accounting policies- Works with internal auditors, insurance examiners, and external auditors to answer questions and provide backup- May have supervisory responsibility, which may include evaluating performance, recommending salary changes, assisting in the interviewing and selection of new personnel, and providing training and development to direct reportsJOB REQUIREMENTS**Minimum Skills and Competencies**:- 7+ years of prior accounting experience- Thorough knowledge of: Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), computerized accounting, financial reporting, and allocation systems- Effective communication, leadership and problem solving skills- Analyze and synthesize complex information to form options and recommendations; utilize effective research and investigative techniques- English 90%**Desired Skills**:- General understanding of the insurance industry and organizational relationships of the company- Understanding of the functions of other departments, such as Treasury and Product- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred, but not required
