Senior Accountant, Fiscally Sponsored Projects Tides

Position Summary Senior Accountants with Tides' Fiscally Sponsored Projects team provide direct client support, addressing the accounting needs of our fiscally sponsored organizations and internal stakeholders. This role helps our clients achieve their missions by supporting their financial processes including budgeting, financial forecasting and reporting, and grant management for foundation and governmental funds.
Qualified candidates will bring non-profit accounting acumen as well as strong communication and business partnering skills to their work with stakeholders. This position requires adaptability as Accountants respond to needs from a variety of projects and partners, and is well-suited to candidates who bring a growth mindset to the workplace.
This position is classified as part of our collective bargaining unit (SEIU 1021).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Senior Accountants are responsible for a variety of accounting duties while maintaining accurate financials for all Tides projects. These will include:
Providing exceptional, partner-centric client service related to accounting, reporting, grant management, budgeting, and analysis.Ensuring that daily financial and accounting functions comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), funder regulations, Tides cash management policies and all applicable regulatory requirements.Preparing documentation for annual and other external audits/tax filings, as needed; ensuring "audit readiness" of assigned grants.Reviewing and approving disbursements and monitoring project cash flow to ensure compliance with funder regulations and Tides cash management policies.Summarizing and forecasting project revenues, expenses, and cash flows based on past, present, and expected results.Preparing and presenting financial statements and related reports, including balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow reports, budgets, and variance analysis to projects, and external and internal management team as required.Evaluating, improving, and documenting policies and procedures related to fiscal sponsorship financial services.Training and supporting other members of Fiscally Sponsored Projects team, as needed.Other duties and projects, as assigned. Strong knowledge of GAAP and FASB standards, non-profit and grant accounting, internal control processes, as well as legal rules and regulations for non-profit operations designated as IRS 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations. Demonstrated partner-centric approach to finance, including understanding and meeting the needs of internal and external stakeholders. Strong analytical and accounting skills. Must be able to identify, analyze, and problem-solve accounting or compliance issues within a deadline-oriented environment. Track record of maintaining effective internal controls and developing efficient financial policies and procedures. Proven ability to support workflow processes that ensure high degrees of accuracy and accountability within team members. Ability to work collaboratively toward solutions that generally benefit all involved parties. Strong critical thinking and decision-making ability and able to make financially sound determinations. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to hold information confidential with excellent judgment. Excellent organizational, planning, prioritizing and time management skills. Education and Work Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent years of related work experience. 3+ years professional experience in a similar position. Prior experience with fund/grant accounting and/or work in a non-profit environment. Proficiency with MS Office and Salesforce Proficiency with NetSuite Compensation Tides is committed to providing a competitive compensation package. Your starting salary will fall into one of three ranges, depending on your location:
National market: $82,900 - $103,600 (Most U.S. states) Moderate market: $90,400 - $113,000 (Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and D.C. metro areas) High market: $99,400 - $124,200 (New York City and San Francisco metro areas) Please note the above geographic areas are examples and not a complete list.
