Visa's legal team in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is seeking a seasoned attorney to provide commercial and regulatory legal support to Visa's growing business in Mexico. This position presents an exceptional chance to make a significant impact and broaden professional expertise in a challenging setting. The position will be based in Mexico City. The attorney will report to the Sr. Counsel, Legal, Mexico.
**Responsibilities**
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements in English and Spanish, such as client incentives agreements, advertising and promotion agreements, sponsorship agreements, technology agreements, vendor agreements, and confidentiality agreements, with a particular focus on consultancy agreements for the Visa Consulting and Analytics team.
- Leverage AI tools to create templates and optimize processes to expedite agreement drafting, negotiation, and execution, thereby improving time to market. This also includes developing templates/standard documents or adapting U.S. documents to local requirements.
- Coordinate and supervise outside counsel on corporate matters for timeliness, cost-effectiveness, and excellence of service and work product. This includes requesting and approving shareholder minute meetings and coordinating their execution as required to comply with local law and meet business needs.
- Develop and execute trainings on relevant legal topics to internal clients for promoting a more efficient cross functional collaboration.
- Expertise in relevant areas of the law, including commercial, intellectual property, privacy, antibribery, employment and payments regulations.
- This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs._
**Qualifications**
Basic Qualifications:
- Admitted to practice law in Mexico (Licenciado en derecho)
- 5 or more years of commercial legal experience in, either or both, private practice or in-house with multinationals.
- First-class written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English, including ability to lead or participate in conference calls to negotiate agreements in both languages.
Preferred Qualifications:
- LL.M or equivalent
- Proficient in using AI tools such as Chat GPT and MS Co-Pilot to streamline legal processes and enhance workflow efficiency.
- Strong ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies, with a demonstrated capacity for continuous learning.
- Experience with banking, payments and/or fintechs regulation in Mexico, knowledge of U.S. law ideal.
- Exhibits intellectual curiosity and self-motivation, with a keen interest in understanding complex challenges and staying updated on the latest industry trends.
- Excellent legal analytical skills with the ability to identify, untangle and analyze legal issues within a business context, and provide clear, concise, and actionable advice to non-lawyers.
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build strong working relationships with internal clients at all levels of management and work collaboratively with country, regional and global teams to ensure effective management within a matrix organization headquartered in the U.S., but working in multiple geographical locations.
