**Essential Job Functions**:
- The partner must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation:_
- Independently coordinate and lead complex audits with mínimal oversight from the Audit Management team. Lead financial audits of corporate functions, Petco stores and other areas for compliance to Petco policies and procedures, enhancing the overall system of internal controls and identifying areas for simplification/process improvement. This involves performing risk-based audits requiring the completion of risk assessments and the development of audit programs and processes to review key financial and operational areas. This requires conducting interviews with management and other Associates, utilizing data extraction and analysis software, performing tests of transactions, examining appropriate records and documentation, and evaluating the effectiveness of key financial and operation controls and processes.
- Determine that established policies and procedures are adequate and being followed. Recommend improvements to policies and procedures and assist in the development of audit methodologies.
- Ensure that financial/operational information and supporting documentation are complete and accurate. Evaluate the effectiveness of the system of internal controls for safeguarding Company assets and the completeness and accuracy of financial and operational data.
- Identify and quantify concerns and risks resulting from the use of existing methods and controls.
- During audit fieldwork, prepare and review all workpapers to document audit procedures and audit conclusions.
- Assist in performing follow-up reviews to verify that necessary corrective actions have been implemented to correct previously identified internal control weaknesses.
- Conduct audit-related training/consulting services for the various functional departments as appropriate for each audit assignment.
- Maintain a high degree of familiarity with Petco policies and procedures, GAAP, GAAS and the Institute of Internal Auditors' International Professional Practices Framework.
- Lead the annual COSO/SOX 404 and related disclosure and controls testing, including assisting IT Audit Manager with ITGC compliance testing.
- Assist in the annual audit planning processes by recommending audits of high and emerging risks.
- Train new auditors and advise management of progress during the orientation/training period.
**Education/Experience**:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or related field and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA preferred but will also consider CIA, CISA, or MBA.
- Minimum 5 years of audit experience. Public accounting experience preferred.
- Possess a solid understanding of general retail practices and general IT.
- Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills (oral and written) are required due to the nature of involvement and interaction with associates at all levels of the organization.
- Advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word. Experience with data extraction software (SQL, ACL/AX, etc.) preferred.
