We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon.As a Senior SQL Server DBA, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our SQL Server database environment, working with a highly-skilled engineering and architecture team to design and implement automation across our global business.
For this role, based in Mexico City, a typical day will include:Overseeing the design and architecture of databases to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and reliabilityDeveloping and maintaining scripts, tools, and automation workflows to streamline database management tasks, deployments, and maintenance activities.Providing day-to-day support of high databases to identify root causes of production problems and resolve such problems.Implementing and managing backup and recovery procedures to ensure business continuity in case of disasters or system failures.Implementing and enforcing security measures, access controls, encryption, and policies to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access, breaches, and vulnerabilities.Planning and executing database upgrades, migrations, and patching activities to ensure databases are running on supported and secure versions.Identifying and analyzing business needs, conducting requirements gathering, and defining scope and objectives for the IT SystemProviding guidance and mentoring to other team members to enhance their skills and capabilities in database administration.WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCONSenior level technical expertise in SQL Server Database Administration activities on versions 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022.Experience monitoring and optimizing database performance by identifying and resolving bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and issues related to indexing, and configuration, with the ability to write scripts to perform functions across multiple serversExperience in analyzing gaps and recommending appropriate database solutions.Experience in HA/DR options for SQL Server such as AlwaysOn, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, Replication, etc.Experience with patching activities like applying Service Packs, Cumulative Updates, and Security Updates.Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using DMVs, Native Monitoring, and Troubleshooting Tools.Proficiency with SQL Server Installation, Upgrade, Migration, Backup and Recovery, Security, and Troubleshooting.Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience.English proficiency required.HOW YOU CAN THRIVE AT ALCONOpportunity to join a growing, early-stage organization built within a mature, stable global company.Friendly working environment and a diverse and highly motivated team.Truly international environment and daily interactions with colleagues and stakeholders from all over the world.Attractive benefits & compensation package.Flexible hours and remote work possibilities (min 3 days per week office-based).
