The Six Sigma Black Belt Engineer is an expert in Six Sigma methodologies with a proven track record of leading cross-functional teams to identify and resolve critical production and product-related issues. This individual contributor role demands a deep understanding of structured problem-solving frameworks and hands-on application of the Six Sigma toolkit in manufacturing or product development environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical, electrical, or mechatronics engineering background and a results-oriented approach to driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
General Responsibilities:Lead Structured Problem-Solving Efforts:
- Facilitate Six Sigma projects, driving the team from problem identification and definition to the implementation of permanent corrective actions.
- Use tools such as DMAIC, root cause analysis, FMEA, statistical analysis, and control charts to address production and product issues.Support Production and Product Quality:
- Act as a technical leader in solving major production and product quality issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze performance gaps and develop sustainable solutions.Data-Driven Analysis:
- Apply statistical tools to analyze production data, identify trends, and establish process baselines.
- Use hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and DOE (Design of Experiments) to verify potential solutions.Documentation and Reporting:
- Document and present findings, improvement plans, and project results to stakeholders.
- Maintain clear records of methodologies, actions, and outcomes to ensure traceability and repeatability.Training and Mentorship:
- Provide guidance to Green Belts and other team members on Six Sigma tools and methodologies.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and best practices.Support Continuous Improvement Initiatives:
- Participate in or lead Kaizen events and Lean Six Sigma workshops to enhance operational efficiency.
- Drive process standardization, cost reduction, and quality improvement across the organization.Experience / QualificationsA university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent relevant work experience.Six Sigma Black Belt is mandatory.Proven track record of leading Six Sigma projects with quantifiable results.Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation.Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results.Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity.Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards.Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in automotive, aerospace, or similar high-precision industries.Knowledge of Lean principles and tools (e.g., Value Stream Mapping, 5S).Familiarity with ISO or IATF quality management standards.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):Number of successfully completed Six Sigma projects.Measurable improvements in production KPIs (e.g., yield, downtime, defect rate).On-time delivery of corrective actions and project milestones.Reduction in cost of poor quality (COPQ).
