Core areas of the role include:
**NPD Activities**:
Plastics Engineer will help us review new product designs, that involve complex plastic injection molding and work with an extended team of Tool makers and tool designers to develop and create mold tooling proposals with detailed and comprehensive DFM that includes identifying and select appropriate Molding machines, Mold flow analysis simulation studies, decide on the appropriate # of cavities for manufacturing process optimization, effectiveness, OEE, Develop Tool progress reports, scheduling of trials, detailed dimensional and Tolerance analysis, feasibility studies, selection of the right mold bases, understand the behavior of perishable tooling, Automated part ejection mechanisms, part unloading, knowledge of complex gating methods.
An individual in this role will have the ability to analyze, critique, question and make appropriate recommendations to modify the tool designs and structures to arrive at the most optimal proposals for MP.
Component types:
Component design scope involves, straight hard plastics, insert molded components, double shot Molding that involve both hard and soft plastics, secondary operations that involve compression molding. Experience and knowledge of compression molding products and processes that involve various Silicone and EPMD rubber materials with different durometers is a plus for this role
**Knowledge of LPOM**:
Experience in low pressure over molding of PA material types, design of appropriate tools to manage ingress protection requirements. Design of tooling over PCBAs that are embedded with complex Semiconductors, active and passive components through low pressure molding is also a major plus attribute for this role.
Injection Molding Process Design and sustaining Engineering:
The role also involves hands-on involvement in leading and conducting mold tool evaluation trials, advising, and managing and establishing appropriate molding parameters for high precision and repeat, high volume manufacturing. Experience with different Injection molding presses for both Soft plastics (over molding) and hard plastics (components) ranging from 30 tonnes to 400 tonnes will be a key attribute for this role.
**Other responsibilities**:
Problem solving and advising Design engineers of the best practices to maintain dimensional and tolerance criteria and how it affects tooling design will be a routine requirement through early design engagement.
Mentoring, coaching and developing new talent within the organization
Ideal applicant would have several years of experience with strong fundamental knowledge of the above aspects described in the job duties and responsibilities.
Internal and External communication:
An individual in this role will have demonstrated experience in the job duties above and will be trusted to engage with customers and internal teams as part of routine activities, maintaining an active action register to communicate with various audiences related to program, project timing and deliverables.
Work extensive with customers, internal NPD, NPI, Process Engineering, Quality and management to advise and influence smart and sensible decisions (cost optimal) during both quotation, sourcing and implementation phases.
**Qualifications and Experience**:
- BS/MS in plastics injection molding and/or material science/ with related coursework
- Minimum 10 years of hands on experience in the field
- AutoCAD/ experience
- Ability to study CAD designs, and analyze tol stack up and impact to tool designs.
- Strong leadership and assertive communication skills
- Collaborating with other teams in problem solving efforts
- Dedicated and demonstrated skills and knowledge of having successfully developed and launched products that are deployed and released to the market.
