Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use. Role PurposeProvides subject matter expertise in engineering that improves product, process and/or equipment performance (cost, quality and service) and/or advances the innovation process to enable the delivery of new products. Provides solutions for increased process selects, increased material utilization, decreased costs, and improvement to product quality by planning, organizing and implementing projects. Is a leader in obtaining fundamental process understanding and meeting the lowest cost producer objectivesDesigns and analyses first generation / next generation products, processes and/or equipment in support of a new product / technology introduction. Maintains knowledge of the latest developments in their area of expertise in order to identify and document any intellectual property developed as part of a project Key ResponsibilitiesProvides leadership in problem solving, and technical expertise, to ensure timely resolution of short-term process and equipment issues, and higher level troubleshootingProvides direction to other technicians / engineers, coaches junior engineers, and provides guidance to maintenance personnelProvides general engineering and manufacturing skills and knowledge (understands theories and fundamentals), and capable of leading projects to get to root cause of issues, and put permanent solutions in placeProvides disciplined project leadership across multiple stages of innovation for new product, process, cost reduction and capacity improvement initiativesRecommends and implements permanent solutions to long term performance issues, and improves existing and new technologies and processesDevelops and leads some areas of the manufacturing and/or technical roadmap
