**BASIC FUNCTION**
Conduct skilled and specialized product development testing in the Engineering Laboratories, ensuring tests are executed reliably. Ensure test media, consumables, and benches are maintained and properly controlled. Partner with Product Engineering to provide testing observations and aid in problem solving. Participate in the design, documentation, construction, verification, installation, and commissioning of test equipment used to evaluate product performance. Provide engineering guidance and technical expertise in the areas of electro-mechanical systems, control schemes, and data acquisition to aid in product and component testing. Help drive innovation and continuous improvement of product development test methods and equipment.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Conduct and coordinate qualification, verification, and validation testing and reporting of Kitchen & Bath products.
- Transfer knowledge from Center of Excellence Laboratories to the MTC Laboratories by training and mentoring engineers, analysts, and/or technicians using best practices.
- Responsible for new laboratory test equipment through the integration of controls, sensors, drives, servos, mechanical systems, and networks using knowledge of PLCs, HMI systems, controls networking, data acquisition systems, electrical panel design, and complex water system infrastructure.
- Direct and coordinate efforts of engineers, support personnel, and external vendors involved in the design, documentation, prototype, construction, verification, commissioning and troubleshooting of test equipment used to evaluate products in test laboratories.
- Provide direction and assistance in vendor selection, equipment specification, quotation, reviews, and negotiation of final contractual terms for equipment acquisition.
- Ensure technical data produced by the labs is accurate and precise, through the review of data collection systems and measurement studies.
- Provide support with project plans and cost estimates, white papers, and ACTs, including justification of risks vs. benefits.
- Pilot new testing concepts to determine technical feasibility and support NPD initiatives.
- Develop and maintain Quality Management System, equipment calibration & maintenance, equipment troubleshooting and lab accreditation under EMA 17025, NOM, and others.
- Introduce and foster the growth of technology and test automation where appropriate.
**SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS**:
- Reports to MTC Laboratory Manager and provides high level support to all K&B product management.
- Provides technical direction to, and coordinates activities of engineers, analysts, and skilled non-exempt technicians.
**ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS**:
- Frequent contact with Engineering Test Labs, Plant QA Labs, NPD/CPD Engineering, Model Shop, and Purchasing, regarding improvements with design, material specifications, and component specifications - all related to the design/build of test equipment and supporting utilities.
- Occasional contact with Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Accounting, Corporate Management, Legal, Quality Engineering and other internal groups as required.
**EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS**:
- Frequent contact with vendors regarding part design and component specification used in the design/build of test equipment and supporting utilities.
- Occasionally attend engineering and trade shows and seminars to investigate new products, processes, and materials, and in general to improve overall knowledge.
**LEVEL OF SKILL**:
A Test Engineer possesses technical and management skills necessary to complete projects with limited technical supervision. The ability to direct the activities and train other support personnel to meet project objectives is required.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS**:
Professional Degree with at least four years of steadily increasing experience. Specific areas of expertise such as electro-mechanical devices, instrumentation, CAD, and test fixture design are desirable for this position. Quality systems knowledge such as ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001, EMA requirements, Internal Auditor experience, and metrology knowledge is required.
