Position Purpose Sr. Merch Support Analysts are internal consultants for the merchandising department. They generate value from deep knowledge of data and business for the intelligent decision-making process within multifunctional teams in the management of Assortment, Prices, Promotions, Planning, and analytics processes. They track business results and are an active part in meeting business goals, able to identify business opportunities from the analysis of large volumes of data. They provide a statistical and financial foundation for merchandising decisions, responsible for developing business processes, team reporting, data modeling, and technological solutions for the Merch Support Department. They must advise and mentor Merch Analysts and have the capability to play roles both as a team builder and a team player.
Primary Accountabilities Merch Support: Provides support and numerical foundations to CMs in the Assortment Optimization process and decisions for right parts, right placement. Data Mining: Identifies business drivers and manages timely decision-making. Generates reports and/or analysis of the root of change, capable of finding patterns and correlations between business variables such as Price, Deal, Assortment, Inventory, Commercial conditions, demographics, and Customer data. Expert in backend advanced processes/algorithms (databases programming, mainly SAS and SQL) with solid foundations in math and statistical methods. Development: Proposes, designs, and develops processes, models, and solutions for Assortment Optimization processes/algorithms. Able to develop automatic processes and/or apps to ensure friendly and useful user tools (Technology .Net / Web Programming, intermediate-advanced level). Coaching: Mentors and develops support for Analysts of the Assortment Optimization Team to enhance technical skills and understanding of the group's business, leading both team worker and team player roles. Education & Experience Level of Formal Education: A Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent.
Area of Study: Business Administration, Statistics, Engineering, or comparable field.
Years of Experience: Five to seven years.
Type of Experience: Three to five years in an analytical role with sufficient experience in other areas to demonstrate a thorough understanding of retailing; key areas may include Business Administration, Statistics, Engineering, Programming business applications.
Special Certifications or Technical Skills: Should meet all of the requirements for Merchandising Analyst. Demonstrate advanced data step/macro programming in SAS, ability to perform advanced statistical analysis including regression, correlation, and cross-tabs, and be the team's resource for financial reporting and understanding of EVA, P&L, Balance Sheets. Must be able to write advanced SQL queries (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL), ETL Processes, and web programming. English advanced-intermediate required.
Other/Preferred: Graduate degree/MBA preferred.
