POSITION SUMMARY
The Thermal Engineer Lead is an expert in their field within the organization. The Sr Thermal Engineer manages individual contributors and supports them in new product development. They serve as the technical reference for all functional and thermal behavior of the unit when designing new products or implementing new technology. The Thermal Engineer Lead is expected to provide heavy support to internal groups such as marketing, product management, application engineering, customer technical support, and manufacturing. This role provides direct daily support to NPDI projects by coordinating engineering deliverables, managing the Thermal Engineering team, and handling follow-ups, escalations,
and problem resolutions as part of daily activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides technical leadership to internal Vertiv functions - marketing, sales, application engineering, customer technical support and service, and manufacturing.
- Understands the products, suggesting ideas and improvements back to the group.
- Assists with creation, reviewing, and systems-entry of new product specifications, ECNs, tests, procedures, user manuals, submittal drawings, and sales literature.
- Develops team experience on thermal and refrigeration design tools.
- Leads detailed design reviews and has responsibility for output to management.
- Works with contract resources and/or manufacturers for prototype/production builds.
- Assists with troubleshooting of escalated or recurring field issues.
- Designs and performs testing plans.
- Works closely with technicians and junior engineers, providing technical support and guidance.
- Collaborates with other groups, including Electrical, Mechanical, Control engineers, System test, customer support, and manufacturing.
- Leads team development and New Product Development.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science in Thermal or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Master's degree in Thermal science preferred.
- 9+ years of engineering experience in DX and CW Refrigeration system development/design.
- Must have a comprehensive understanding of refrigeration systems to design or select components from scratch.
- Working proficiency in mechanical and thermal design concepts.
- Ability to follow, create, and organize testing and instructional procedures.
- Basic mechanical CAD tools experience primarily for review of thermal designs.
- Ability to open, simplify, and import models into CDF software.
- Experience with thermal design software such as Refprop, Colidesigner, or equivalent analysis package.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to solve (and prevent)
a wide range of problems quickly and logically.
- Excellent planning, organizing, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and operate in cross-functional global development teams.
- Fluency in English.
