We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to oversee legal affairs for our Mexican operations while maintaining alignment with our US corporate office.
The ideal candidate will combine expertise in Mexican law with experience in international business operations and manufacturing.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide comprehensive legal support for all aspects of Mexican manufacturing operations.Review, draft, and negotiate commercial contracts with customers, suppliers, and service providers.Ensure compliance with Mexican labor laws, environmental regulations, and safety standards, as well as internal regulations.Manage relationships with external counsel when specialized expertise is required.Coordinate with the US corporate legal team on cross-border matters and corporate governance.Oversee intellectual property protection and licensing agreements.Handle dispute resolution and litigation management.Advise on corporate structure and tax planning in coordination with the finance department.Support the HR department on employment matters and labor relations.Monitor and implement regulatory changes affecting the automotive industry in Mexico.Advise on compliance with USMCA, customs, and labor-related matters.Required Qualifications8+ years of legal experience, with at least 5 years in the manufacturing or automotive industry.Strong knowledge of USMCA regulations and requirements.Demonstrated experience with USMCA qualification and certification.Understanding of Rules of Origin and Regional Value Content calculations.Familiarity with Labor Value Content requirements.Experience with Mexican customs regulations and the IMMEX program.Previous experience working with Japanese companies preferred.Familiarity with IMMEX program requirements and benefits.VAT certification requirements.Special Economic Zones regulations.Sectoral Promotion Programs (PROSEC).Desired Skills & CompetenciesStrong business acumen and ability to balance legal risks with business objectives.Experience with quality management systems (ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14001).Knowledge of automotive industry standards and compliance requirements.Excellent negotiation and communication skills.Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.Strong project management and organizational skills.Experience with US FCPA and Mexican anti-corruption laws.Proficiency in customs compliance software and ERP systems.Working Conditions & Travel RequirementsBased at Monterrey Office in Monterrey, Mexico.Regular travel to US corporate office (15-20%).May require flexible hours to accommodate different time zones.Seniority LevelMid-Senior levelEmployment TypeFull-timeJob FunctionLegalIndustriesManufacturing
