The Opportunity We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Mainframe Systems Engineer to join our Enterprise System Continuity Mainframe Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with z/OS systems programming, mainframe infrastructure management, and automation processes. In this role, you will manage and optimize our mainframe environment, lead technical initiatives, and ensure the robustness and security of our mainframe systems.
What You'll Contribute Oversee the day-to-day operations of the mainframe environment, including managing z/OS, JES2, and other critical subsystems.Perform installations, maintenance, and upgrades of z/OS operating systems and ISV software using SMP/E. Handle Parmlib configurations, JES2 customizations, and software deployments.Design, develop, and implement automation strategies to streamline mainframe operations, reduce manual effort, and enhance system performance.Monitor system performance, identify potential issues, and implement solutions to ensure optimal operation. Provide support for disaster recovery and system failures.Ensure all mainframe activities adhere to cybersecurity policies and industry standards. Manage security configurations within RACF and USS.Work closely with cross-functional teams, including application developers and cybersecurity experts, to provide technical guidance and support. Serve as a subject matter expert on mainframe systems.Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for system processes, configurations, and recovery procedures. Mentor junior engineers and provide training as needed.What We're Seeking Experience with z/OS systems programming, including installation, maintenance, and support.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.Experience with TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, and Unix System Services (USS).Proficiency in using SMP/E for software installation and maintenance.Advanced knowledge of mainframe architecture, including JES2, SMF, and z/OS security.Strong understanding of mainframe utilities, batch processing, and system monitoring tools.Experience with RACF, including configuring and managing security settings.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues in a mainframe environment.Preferably experience with REXX programming and automation.Preferably experience with mainframe performance monitoring tools (e.g., Omegamon/Tivoli, IBM NetView).Familiarity with IBM z/OS operating system components such as GDPS, WLM, VTAM, DFSMS, and others.Experience with COBOL, DB2, CICS, and IMS.Knowledge of Agile methodologies and CI/CD practices.Experience in a financial services or similarly regulated industry.Our Offer to You An inclusive culture strongly reflecting our core values: Act Like an Owner, Delight Our Customers and Earn the Respect of Others.The opportunity to make an impact and develop professionally by leveraging your unique strengths and participating in valuable learning experiences.Highly competitive compensation, benefits and rewards programs that encourage you to bring your best every day and be recognized for doing so.An engaging, people-first work environment offering work/life balance, employee resource groups, and social events to promote interaction and camaraderie.Why Make a Move to FICO?
