Our scientific and manufacturing expertise, boundless curiosity, and commitment to purposeful invention place us at the center of the way the world interacts, works, learns, and lives.Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.Role PurposeThe Sheet Metal Fabrication Engineer provides day-to-day technical engineering support to the fabrication manufacturing shop floor to ensure metal fabrication processes are operating optimally and meeting customer requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesCreate and update manufacturing procedures to maximize process efficiency (shop floor layout, workflow, and assembly methods).Provide engineering support to the shop floor for troubleshooting and resolving product and process-related issues.Define and implement manufacturing cost reduction and product improvement projects as part of a continuous improvement methodology.Evaluate and coordinate manufacturing process improvements (product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, quality control).Support the review of New Product Introduction engineering documentation (prints, process instructions) to ensure compliance with manufacturability, quality, cost, operating specifications, and customer and company standard requirements.Evaluate and coordinate the purchase of new equipment based on operation requirements.Provide guidelines to technicians and trainers in the interpretation of drawings and fabrication requirements.Provide daily follow-up on manufacturing problems and initiate RCA to address key area metrics.Design and coordinate the build of fixtures required for the process.Collaborate with training and production departments to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for employees.Estimate production times, personnel requirements, and related costs to inform management decisions.Support the identification of training needs for supporting technical personnel.Cutting ProcessesCoordinate the support for the purchase, maintenance, and care of thick turret tooling.Establish and monitor systems to control the use and purchase of gas for laser processes.Bending ProcessesCoordinate the support for the purchase and care of bending and PEM insertion tooling.Establish and monitor systems to control the use and purchase of gas for welding processes.Coordinate the support for the creation/validation of bending/PEM machines programs.Paint ProcessesCoordinate activities to ensure all process parameters in the paint system are within controls
