**Description**
This position directs Mechanical operations in shop, yard and mainline environment.
It has overall responsibility for managing mechanical operations related to repairing and service of equipment within the assigned territory.
Additionally, this position ensures that proper safety requirements are being met and comply with regulatory safety requirements, Association of American Railroads (AAR) and Federal Railroad Association (FRA) requirements.
This position directs and plans equipment maintenance and repair and assures safety while providing needed quality assurance to all repairs.
Number one responsibility is to analyze, develop and incorporate standardized maintenance practices and increase fleet reliability through proven quality methods.
This position manages workflow planning and is the technical expert and responsible for analytics.
**Accountabilities**
- Oversees daily shop flow, and scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance.
- Maintains relationships with Transportation, MLU and help desk to identify potential problems and determine feasible solutions to meet TSP requirements.
- Ensures facility maintenance and cleanliness.
- Plans, forecasts, and executes logistics requirements to achieve efficient production results.
- Plans repairs calibrates shop equipment and tools.
- Supervises managers and union employees to minimize any federal or association regulations violations.
- Promotes safety protocol for workers and attends safety meetings.
- Maintains locomotives and cars to prevent unnecessary delays.
- Reviews daily Manager Action Plans and adjusts as needed.
- Troubleshoots all aspects from end-to-end of a locomotive.
- Provides scheduled maintenance plans to increase reliability of the KCS fleets.
- Oversees technical documentation and ensures up to date information is available.
- Stays abreast of FRA and other relevant regulations and ensures company compliance.
- Meets production targets in a cost-efficient and safe manner.
- Protects company assets in derailment situations; use outside equipment as infrequently as possible.
- Maintains tool accountability and enforce work order and inspection packet procedures.
- Maintains yard equipment.
- Coordinates training of employees.

**Required**
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
**Preferred**
- Previous Kansas City Southern experience
**Working Conditions**
- Shift work is an essential function of this job.
Employees must have the ability and willingness to support critically important railroad operations 24 hours per day/7 days per week, working various shifts as assigned.
Schedule assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays.
